FROM THE CHAIRMAN’S DESK

Dear Members,

GJS-India Gem & Jewellery Show, a marquee initiative by the GJC begins

on 30th September 2023, just ahead of the Diwali festival, a peak season for the industry.

We have 800+ exhibitors displaying a wide range across sections from gold, diamond,

platinum, colour stone and machinery and antique couture jewellery—all under one roof.

Spread across almost 250,000 square feet at the Jio World Convention Centre, it is going

to be a one-stop solution for all the business needs of retailers. The honourable Governor

of Maharashtra Shri Ramesh Bais will inaugurate this much-awaited event.

The expo is indeed going to be a trendsetter in the gem and jewellery industry this

year, as many manufacturers plan to launch new products showcasing the latest trends

and designs. This will empower retailers to elevate their offerings with innovative designs,

creating a compelling shopping experience for their customers during the upcoming

festive and wedding season. This will also help them remain competitive and capture a

larger share of the market while satisfying the evolving preferences of their clientele.

We are expecting over 10000+visitors from within the country and 300 visitors coming

from the Middle East. This year is going to be very exciting for the industry as we have

two Gala Events planned this season—the IJFC Shopping Festival and the National

Jewellery Awards. We also plan to conduct five knowledge-sharing seminars spread across

three days.

GJC Connect, is a platform through which we share market-relevant trends, and stories

to help our members stay abreast of the latest in the industry. In this issue, we explore the

latest trends in jewellery marketing and discuss how online platforms such as Instagram

and Facebook can be used to attract newer customers.

Looking at the industry growth, it is increasing around 5-7% every year. Although

gold prices are increasing so are the demand and gold sales, but what has decreased is

the exports. The domestic demand is at an all-time high—with sales picking up even

in smaller districts, towns and across 6 lakh villages in India. It is a healthy sign for the

industry, and for retailers who want to expand exponentially—sky is the limit!

Best Regards,

Saiyam Mehra

taying ahead in business means staying updated—embracing the latest

design trends, marketing tools, and technologies to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving

market. In this context, exhibitions such as the Gem & Jewellery Show (GJS) organised

by GJC play a vital role in helping retailers prepare for the busiest business season—

Dusshera, Diwali and the upcoming wedding season—which bring heightened demand

and increased business activity. The upcoming GJS set to take place at the state-of-the-art

Jio World Convention Centre, will empower retailers to curate an inventory that boasts

high-quality and innovative jewellery offerings.

Our exhibitions have been a testament to quality and innovation at the best prices. The

GJC council strives to ensure that all stakeholders—retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers,

and customers—in the gems and jewellery value chain gain the most from these events.

While it is primarily a B2B exhibition, the incubation of design and innovation at

the manufacturing stage, combined with competitive pricing, is sure to resonate with

retailers. This will result in enhanced value for end consumers and thereby serve as a

comprehensive, integrated solution for the entire value chain.

The rise of gold prices is a natural phenomenon and with the rise in demand, it ought

to rise. It is not going to impact the industry in any way, irrespective of the geo-political

scenario. Gold and silver are precious metals that are going to stay in the long run and we

hope that this festive season will be a fruitful one for everyone in the industry.

This issue of GJC Connect brings you several articles that provide relevant insights on

industry best practices. The lab-grown diamond jewellery is steadily becoming a consumer

consideration. Our cover story seeks to explore this sector’s industry growth opportunity

and the trends in this sector. Elsewhere, we discuss the latest trends in jewellery marketing

and discuss some of the newer platforms that retailers and manufacturers could use to

reach their target audience.

The history of jewellery is fascinating—from stone to wood to metals such as silver and

gold. And history holds many valuable lessons that could be valid even today. We trace

the evolution of the ubiquitous gold coin—from being an investment tool to being the

centrepiece of statement jewellery. We also take a page from today’s trends and discuss the

Barbie-Oppenheimer phenomenon in jewellery. Apart from these, we also feature several

standout designer jewel collections.

We look forward to your suggestions and feedback on GJC Connect. These will help us

present content that is most relevant for the industry.

Happy Reading
