How do you upload your video to a flipbook?
By uploading your own video instead of linking from YouTube or Vimeo, you can ensure it plays without any distracting player logos, buttons, or external branding. Whether it’s a personal greeting, product demo, or tutorial, embedding your video directly creates a cleaner, more polished viewing experience that keeps your audience focused on your content.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to upload your own video using Publuu.
Adding your own video to a flipbook – general instruction
Access your Publuu account, pick the flipbook you’d like to edit, and hit the CUSTOMIZE button.
Next, click the ADD HOTSPOT option located in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Alternatively, you can click the ADD HOTSPOTS button to go straight to the hotspot editing and customization options.
From the navigation panel on the left, choose the page where you’d like to add your video. The selected page will then display in the center of the screen.
Then click the VIDEO button located in the top toolbar.
A pop-up window will now appear, allowing you to upload your own video in MP4 format (maximum file size: 100 MB). To upload it, simply click on the upload box to drop your file or click the blue ADD FILES button to proceed.
Once you’ve added your video file, it will appear on your flipbook page.
At this point, the video settings on the right side will become available, letting you customize how the video looks and plays.
To adjust the size and position of your video, simply drag the blue corners and move it to the desired location.
In the video settings panel, you’ll also find several helpful options.
Here, you can play your video to make sure it looks right before publishing it.
You can also replace the file if you want to, for example, update the content or simply use a different one.
All you need to do is to double-click on the player to open the ADD A VIDEO pop-up or press on REPLACE VIDEO and upload the new version.
In addition, if you no longer wish to keep the video, you can simply erase it by clicking on REMOVE HOTSPOT.
Further down, you’ll also see a preview window showing your video thumbnail, which helps you see how it will be displayed to your viewers.

Furthermore, you can choose how your video appears. You can place it as an interactive clickable hotspot or embed it to play directly on the page, what can increase viewer engagement and make your content more dynamic.
To select one of the options below, simply click the blue STYLE button.
Embed mode
By default, your uploaded video is set to play in embed mode, allowing you to customize its behavior using various settings available just below the Embed button.
Use the toggle switches below to enable or disable your preferred video settings.
When the thumbnail option is enabled, a preview image will be displayed before the video begins playing.
You can also turn on video controls and define the exact time the video should begin by using the START AT field.
To see how your video appears within your flipbook, click the PREVIEW button located in the top right corner.
Or click the SAVE button if you’re happy with how it looks.
Additionally, if you want your video to play without sound, simply switch the MUTED VIDEO option on.
To have your video start automatically when the page is turned, enable the AUTOMATIC PLAY option by toggling it to the right.
You can also choose to loop your video, which means it will play continuously—automatically starting over each time it ends, without you needing to press play again. Slide the loop switch to the right — it will light up blue when it’s on.
If needed, you can always remove the video at any time by selecting Remove Hotspot.
How to add a video as a hotspot to a flipbook?
On the other hand, if you’d like the video to appear in a pop-up window when someone clicks the animated hotspot, go to VIDEO SETTINGS and select the HOTSPOT button.
Now that your video is an animated hotspot, you can click and drag it to place it wherever you like on the page.
Then, decide if you’d prefer it as a single animated hotspot or make it entire area clickable. If you choose the hotspot, you’ll be able to personalize it by picking a color and icon.
Here’s how the hotspot will be displayed after activating the SHOW HOTSPOT switch and customizing it.
To set it as an active area, turn the switch of ACTIVE AREA on by sliding it to the right. After that you can customize it further by choosing a color from the available palette.
To use the same settings across all hotspots, simply select the SET FOR ALL option.
When the SHOW HOTSPOT and ACTIVE AREA settings are turned on,

If you want to display it solely as an active area, toggle the Show Hotspot switch to the left while keeping the Active Area option enabled,
This will create a blue, pulsating, transparent overlay effect, like on the screen below.
If everything looks good, press the PREVIEW button at the top to view your changes in real time.
When you’re done, remember to save your work by clicking the SAVE button at the top right of the screen.
Lastly, if you’d like to delete the hotspot, press the REMOVE HOTSPOT button in the lower right corner of the video settings panel.
