Art and entrepreneurship are often viewed

as distinct domains, some may perceive

authors and artists as being far removed from

entrepreneurship; however, a closer inspection

reveals a compelling overlap between the

two. According to the Cambridge Dictionary's

definition of 'entrepreneur,' individuals who

leverage their creative talents to generate

income and gradually evolve their craft into

a sustainable business venture embody the

essence of entrepreneurship. This definition

underscores that artists, when navigating the

economic landscape with their artistic prowess,

indeed embody entrepreneurial spirit.

The fusion of artistic passion and entrepreneurial

spirit has become paramount for aspiring

artists to thrive. Recognizing this need, FIIB in

collaboration with CommonTime (an online arts

learning platform) has pioneered an innovative

initiative – ‘The Art of Arts Entrepreneurship

Program’ – a platform designed to empower

budding artists with the skills and mindset

necessary to navigate the complex intersection

of art and business. At the heart of the program

lies the belief that creativity and commerce

are not mutually exclusive, but rather

complementary forces that, when harnessed

effectively, can propel artists towards success

in today's competitive market.

Through a blend of seminars, students

enrolled in the program are equipped with

a multifaceted toolkit tailored to the unique

challenges and opportunities within the

creative sphere.

The program places a strong emphasis on

developing entrepreneurial acumen. In this

10-week online seminar, students will gain

essential entrepreneurial skills, business

acumen, and marketing strategies. By learning

how to effectively communicate their artistic

vision, identify target audiences, pricing their

artwork for the global economy; students are

empowered to transform their creative passions

into viable career opportunities. Central to the

program’s success is its network of mentors and

collaborators.

The program encourages interdisciplinary

collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas.

The program will have guest lectures from

Mr Brajesh Jha, senior executive at GenPact;

Ms Alissa Schoenfeld, senior director at Miles

McEnery Gallery in New York City; Mr Adrian

Werum, founder and artistic director of the

Orchester der Kulturen (the World Orchestra) in

Stuttgart and Mr Huzefa Tavawalla, head of the

Bangalore office and Disruptive Technologies

Practice at Nishith Desai Associate.

By engaging with instructors from diverse

backgrounds and disciplines, participants are

exposed to fresh perspectives and innovative

approaches. As we navigate an increasingly

digital and interconnected world, the Art

of Arts Entrepreneurship Program equips

students with the skills and mindset necessary

to thrive in the creative economy of the 21st

century. By nurturing creativity, fostering

innovation, inculcating design thinking

and instilling entrepreneurial resilience, the

program empowers aspiring artists to not

only dream big but also to turn their dreams

into tangible reality. In essence, the Art of

Arts Entrepreneurship Program embodies

FIIB’s commitment to fostering a culture of

innovation and creativity.

On the occasion of 30th Founders Day, FIIB

organized the 13th Responsibility Summit,

honoring the vision and legacy of Mr R. K.

Shrivastava, founder of FIIB. According to

him, "Education is for improving the lives

of others and for leaving your community

and world better than you found it." Guided

by his profound vision, FIIB adopted the

sustainability thinking formally in 2011 with

the signing of a Sustainability Policy. What

started as a small initiative 13 years back has

now blossomed into a core pillar of FIIB’s culture

and brand. The 13th edition of the Responsibility

Summit summarizes the institute’s action

in this direction. This year’s theme: "Nudge

Forward: Empowering Change, Transforming

Societies", emphasizes the subtle yet profound

shifts necessary for societal progress.

At the summit in 2023, a distinguished and

seasoned group of professional experts

assembled under one roof to exchange

effective sustainability practices. The guest of

honor Mr Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director of UN

Global Compact Network India, was presented

with the ’Leadership in Sustainability Award’ for

leading the way in sustainable development.

Mr Arpit Sharma, COO at Skill Council for

Green Jobs, engaged in a lively interaction

with students, providing valuable insights and

opportunities in the booming Indian green

industry. He underscored the necessity for

infrastructure to support India's commitments

and highlighted major announcements,

including renewable energy expansion, carbon

emission reduction, and the Green Hydrogen

Mission 2030.

During the summit a decisive moment

unfolded when the students and faculty of

FIIB solemnly pledged to uphold responsibility

and ethical conduct in their endeavors by

taking FIIB’s Responsibility Pledge. Later on

a panel discussion on “Nudging for Good:

Embracing Responsibility and Amplifying

Social Impact" sparked thought-provoking

SIP MELA: A Celebration of

Sustainability and Societal Impact

FIIB’s SIP Mela was not merely an exhibition but

a lively celebration of the dedication shown by

240 students in fostering meaningful societal

impacts through their projects. Students

eagerly shared their impactful experiences and

insights from their social internships with 25

esteemed Social Sector Organizations (SSOs)

throughout the event. They effectively utilized

their business acumen and problem-solving

skills to address real-world challenges, from

conducting research projects to spearheading

consulting initiatives and launching fundraising

campaigns.

These endeavors encompassed a broad

spectrum of societal issues, ranging from

addressing social and economic inequalities

for the LGBTQ+ communities in India to

co-authoring guidebooks for parents

of children with intellectual disabilities to

developing educational support programs for

economically disadvantaged students, among

others. Inspired by the Sanskrit meaning of

a mela, signifying a 'gathering' or 'to meet,'

the SIP Mela embodied FIIB's commitment for

collective action for a greater purpose.

This initiative underscores the institution's

dedication towards instilling a lifelong service-

learning mindset in its students, empowering

them to confront global challenges confidently.

Aligned with United Nations’ Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs) like Quality

Education (SDG4), Gender Equality (SDG5),

Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8),

and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

(SDG9); the student's project work highlights

FIIB's commitment to nurturing leaders

poised to create a sustainable and equitable

society. Moreover, students extended their

appreciation to the SSO partners, who served

as employers, mentors and guides, amplifying

their talents and recognizing them as heroes

Program (SIP) has been driven by a vision to

blend business acumen with social impact,

equipping our PGDM students with the skills,

mindset, and experiences necessary for

successful and socially responsible leadership

roles. Through SIP, students learn to navigate

diverse environments, cultivate adaptability,

and make decisions with ethical considerations

in mind, ultimately contributing to sustainable

and ethical business practices.

Explore how they are shaping the future of

business by aligning business goals with

societal needs and driving positive change in

their communities.

I was truly impressed by

the enthusiasm of the FIIB

students in supporting us with

social causes. Remarkably, a few students

continued to visit even after completing their

internship with us. What stood out the most

was their effective performance in handling

diverse tasks as a multitasker. The students’

depth of knowledge left a lasting impact,

and I am confident it will positively influence

the lives and careers of the children at SFC

Learning Center.”

“Hosting 16 students from

Fortune Institute of Business for

their Social Internship Program

at CreativExpression was an enriching

experience. The dedication and initiative they

showed in understanding our work towards

empowering individuals, NGOs, Private Org,

Start-ups and other org. Within India and

across the world, were commendable. Their

passion for social causes assures us that

they’ll make a meaningful impact in their

future endeavors.”

The opportunity to have 10

students from Fortune Institute

of Business complete their

Social Immersion Program at Inclusive

Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association was

not less than a beautiful learning experience

for the students who were part of the SIP.

The students’ dedication and efforts in

taking the initiative to understand the social

realities of Persons with Disabilities are

highly appreciated. We wish them the best

of luck in their future endeavours.”

deal of commendation from FIIB and its

students, and we look forward to continued

collaboration with the institute, faculty, and

students so that the learnings and attitude

of giving back to society and contributing to

solutions remain a focus.”

Students actively participated

in all assignments. They were

curious to know and eager

to understand what role they could play

in contributing to the cause. With the

knowledge and sensitivity that students

have developed, society has become

more prepared to address these issues. We

appreciate FIIB for coming up with these

initiatives and building sensitivity amongst

future leaders regarding their contribution

to society.”

The students were highly

motivated for their respective

roles during the internship

program. They were enthusiastic since day

one of their tenure and showed high skill and

knowledge regarding their devotion to time

and commitment. The documents prepared

by students during the internship will help us

in the long run and support our target groups

advocating for gender-affirmative healthcare

and a more equitable society.

The project at the Sarvodaya Collective
