Dear Readers,

Greetings from SecurityLinkIndia!

Diwali is at hand! Diwali, also known as Deepavali is a festival of lights, celebration, joy, and

togetherness. It is one of the most significant and widely celebrated festivals in India and among Hindu

communities worldwide. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge

over ignorance. It is a time to spread joy, cultivate gratitude, and celebrate the values that bind humanity

together.

But the celebration of Diwali also brings certain risks – risks related to firecrackers, decorations, and

other festive activities. We need to be very careful during the occasion. Here are some important safety and

security tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable Diwali.

Ensure that the firecrackers are purchased from legitimate, certified sellers to reduce the risk of faulty

or dangerous products. It is advisable to always light firecrackers in open, outdoor areas away from

buildings, trees and vehicles. Ensure that children are supervised by adults while lighting or handling any

fireworks. Wear cotton clothes and avoid synthetic fabrics, which can easily catch fire. Prefer maintaining a

distance after lighting the fireworks to avoid accidental injuries. In case of fire, quick access to water or an

extinguisher can help control the situation before it escalates.

It is very imperative to place diyas and candles on stable surfaces, and ensure they are away from

curtains, paper decorations, or anything flammable. LED lights have turned up as a boon today for like

purposes, and hence consider using LED lights instead of traditional oil lamps or candles for reduced fire

risk.

We should keep fire safety measures such as fire extinguishers, buckets of water, and first-aid kits handy

in case of emergencies, and be aware of emergency contacts such as nearest hospital, fire station, and

emergency helpline numbers.

Noise pollution is a major issue during Diwali. Loud firecrackers can disturb the peace, especially for

elderly people, babies, and animals. Opt for soundless or low-noise options. Be mindful of time restrictions

for bursting firecrackers, which may be imposed by local authorities to limit noise pollution at night.

Besides, go green with eco-friendly crackers – prefer opting for green or low-emission firecrackers to

reduce pollution. And clean up firecracker remnants and other waste to prevent harm to the environment

and animals.

Diwali is a busy time when many people are out visiting family and friends. Secure your home by locking

all doors and windows before leaving. If possible, install cameras or security systems for added protection.

Be aware of strangers or suspicious activity in the neighborhood, especially during crowded Diwali

festivities.

While Diwali is a joyous occasion marked by festive activities, it also holds deep spiritual significance. The

festival encourages introspection, self-improvement, and the cultivation of values like kindness, generosity,

and forgiveness. Let us relish this Dipawali with a purpose to spread brotherhood, harmony and peace.

Wish you a happy and prosperous Diwali!

Till we meet next month, stay safe & happy reading!

With warm regards,

Santosh Pathak
