interviewed on YouTube. Despite no prior design experience, Jay created a professional-

LIM 09
Jay Pillai of Lazie Indie Magazine spoke to Durga Mc Broom on various aspects of her career.
Jay: Hi Durga, it’s wonderful to have you with us at Lazie Indie Magazine! Your career is incredibly
inspiring, and we’re excited to capture as much of your journey as possible on a broad canvas. Thanks to
Jobin for introducing us...
Durga Mc Broom: Thank you Jay and nice to speak to you !
.The Voice Within
Jay: Your voice has carried countless stories and emotions across decades and genres. What does your
voice mean to you - on both a personal and spiritual level? Has it transformed over time, reflecting the
person you are today?
Durga McBroom: My voice has definitely changed and grown over the years. Life has given me the tools
to go even deeper with my emotional expression. Losing my husband created access to a much richer
emotional palette, for example.
My voice is access to sharing healing frequencies with the audience. Sometimes singing is like weaving a
magic spell. I try to appeal to people’s hearts.
Moments of Magic
Jay: Music can be transcendent. Can you recall a moment on stage or in the studio when everything
seemed to align, and you felt an almost otherworldly connection - either to the music, the audience or
even to yourself?
Durga McBroom: I think when I sang my part in “Great Gig In The Sky” in Venice, Italy with Pink Floyd I
reached a unique moment of connection. The music flew across the water into the Piazza San Marco, and
the sound has magical. I knew in that moment, that I was a part of history. It was very special.
Durga McBroom:
Rock’s Electrifying Voice and Pink Floyd’s Unstoppable Muse
Durga McBroom is a captivating powerhouse in the world of rock, renowned for her dynamic
performances with Pink Floyd and her genre-defying versatility as a singer, songwriter and performer.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, McBroom’s early life was steeped in creativity, surrounded by the
vibrancy of Hollywood and a family that encouraged her to pursue the arts. This foundation prepared
her for a career that would lead her to stages across the globe, sharing the spotlight with one of rock’s
most iconic bands and making a name for herself as an irreplaceable talent.
McBroom’s life changed dramatically when she joined Pink Floyd’s “A Momentary Lapse of Reason”
tour in the late 1980s, following the band's reformation after Roger Waters' departure. Her commanding
voice and magnetic stage presence added a fresh intensity to Pink Floyd’s live shows, perfectly
complementing David Gilmour’s powerful guitar solos and Nick Mason’s drumming. As one of the lead
backup vocalists, McBroom helped redefine the band's onstage sound, with her voice lending a soulful
depth that enhanced the band’s signature psychedelic and atmospheric style. She quickly became a core
part of Pink Floyd’s live experience, captivating audiences with her electrifying stage presence and
emotional depth.
McBroom’s work with Pink Floyd continued through their “Division Bell” tour in 1994, cementing her
legacy as a part of the band’s history. The tour, which culminated in the "Pulse" live album and DVD,
captured McBroom’s soaring vocals, particularly on tracks like “Great Gig in the Sky,” where her voice
brought a new level of intensity and passion. This collaboration expanded McBroom’s reach, as millions
of fans across the world experienced her vocal prowess and stage charisma. Her contributions to the
band’s performances were nothing short of legendary, solidifying her as a key figure in the band's live
legacy.
But McBroom’s talents go beyond rock music. In 1989, she co-founded Blue Pearl, an electronic dance
duo, alongside British producer Youth. Their breakout hit, "Naked in the Rain," became an international
success, reaching the top of dance charts in multiple countries. Blue Pearl’s success showcased
McBroom’s versatility, as she transitioned from rock to dance music with the same intensity and talent
that had marked her time with Pink Floyd. Her ability to cross genres effortlessly made her a standout
figure in the music industry and highlighted her ability to innovate and expand her artistry.
Durga McBroom’s career is a testament to her unyielding dedication to music and performance. In
addition to her work with Pink Floyd and Blue Pearl, she has collaborated with numerous artists and
occasionally reunited with former Pink Floyd members for special events, keeping her connection to
the band’s legacy alive. Her fearless creativity, combined with her unique voice and stage presence, has
made her an influential figure in both rock and electronic music.
Today, McBroom remains an icon of musical versatility and artistic passion. Her influence and charisma
continue to inspire new generations of musicians and fans, proving that her legacy in music is as
powerful as her voice. Inspiring generations of artists and fans alike with her fearless creativity and
undeniable star power.
