Embracing Technological

Dynamism in Education

Dear Institutional Stakeholders,

We are thrilled and delighted to present to you the Annual Edition

of Campus Connect. The past year has been truly exceptional,

marked by many achievements and advancements in the field

of Higher Education. We are grateful to all the institutions that

have shown trust and partnered with us.

The students of 2023 are unlike any we have encountered

before. They are intelligent, tech-savvy individuals with an

innate understanding of the digital landscape. For them,

spending time in the Metaverse is as commonplace as

thumbing through textbooks.

To meet the needs of these students, we have transformed our

programs from solely focused on learning to include interactive

and retention-based learning experiences. And therefore,

our courses now incorporate innovative technologies,

immersive experiences, and engaging content to foster deeper

understanding and long-lasting knowledge retention.

As we continue to evolve, we firmly believe that it is the

responsibility of all educational institutions across India to

embrace the dynamism that is shaping the tech and education

industry. We would like to partner with such aspirational

institutions to create meaningful long-term impact and ensure

better jobs and outcomes for each of our students.

At an organizational level, we support Indian institutions’

journey towards embracing technological advancements and

offering better learning outcomes to the students. We provide

our expertise and resources to assist them in implementing

cutting-edge programs that empower students to thrive in the

digital age.

Will like to thank you for your unwavering support and belief in

our vision. I eagerly look forward to embarking on an incredible

journey in the coming years.

At upGrad, we are committed to staying at the forefront of this

wave by integrating these trends into our course structure and

pedagogy, and ensuring that our learners are prepared for the

jobs of the future.

The headline news that ChatGPT has become the fastest-

growing app in the world generated tremendous buzz in

February. It amassed an astonishing 100 million users within

2 months, and also showcasing its potential to revolutionize

education. We are very much prepared for this and are

integrating this into our cutting-edge learning platform as well

as pedagogy.

From the beginning, our Unique Selling Proposition (USP) has

been the dynamic nature of our programs. We take great pride

in incorporating the latest industry trends into our curriculum,

ensuring our learners possess the skills and knowledge

necessary to excel in their respective fields.

At upGrad, we believe that the future lies in blended learning (a

mix of live online classes, asynchronous learning and physical

classes) combined with real-life problem-solving experience.

Best Regards,

Amit Mahensaria

CEO, upGrad Campus

Higher Education is undergoing rapid changes, and two of the

prominently visible trends are;

(i) Emergence of new job domains, especially in the field of

Data Science and Generative AI;

(ii) Integration of real-life industry problems in course

pedagogy taught by industry practitioners.

Upskilling to Catalyze

Academia-Industry Synergy

The upskilling ecosystem is evolving at a break-neck pace and

India sits at the very crux of becoming the talent powerhouse

for the global economy. We have talent in abundance at every

corner of the country, the only missing piece seems to be the

means to achieve the requisite modern-day skills that connect

them to the demand side.

A Changing Landscape

The Power of

Non-Linear Thinking

Strengthening Ties between

Academia and Industry

Education is and will always remain in ‘Sunrise’ mode.

Earlier, it was not an ‘Industry’ as you refer to it. It is instead

experiencing a paradigm shift and is no longer a singular

event. It’s encouraging freshers and even seasoned working

professionals to up their ante by acquiring new-age

capabilities. The higher education segment, including the

skill-based courses, is fast becoming a more significant

market than anyone could have ever envisaged, catering to

a vast 1.4 Bn workforce globally. Statistics around individuals

who want to get through a college degree but cannot afford to

pay the fees or become the only bread earner of their family are

also multiplying. These circumstances have opened up newer

growth avenues for the ecosystem.

The past is no longer a reliable guide to the future, especially as

we are coming out of the pandemic and stepping into a new

AI era. To keep up with the demands of this new educational

landscape, it’s essential to embrace non-linear thinking. Both

entrepreneurs and individuals must adopt innovative and risk-

taking approaches, charting new territories and embracing

new ways of learning.

This non-linear mindset should be integrated into educational

curriculums, fostering an environment where learners can

unlock their potential and adapt to the evolving creative and

intellectual property economies of the future. The fourth

industrial revolution is characterized by the rise of the creative

and intellectual property economies, and with AI changing

the rules of the game, non-linear thinking will be crucial in

navigating these new waters.

An exceptional idea holds immense potential, but without

foresight, it may never come to fruition. Embracing non-linear

thinking has been a game-changer, enabling me to venture

down unconventional paths. I do not believe that individuals

are either innately born with an ‘entrepreneur gene’ or without

one. I believe entrepreneurship can be learned and should be

taught. upGrad started off with an entrepreneurship program

to arm aspiring leaders with subject fundamentals and

capabilities, and to date, we believe in that DNA.

At upGrad, our vision is to be a trusted lifelong learning partner

for learners, professionals, and corporate hirers alike. We

aim to make higher education more affordable, accessible,

and relevant by fostering stronger ties between educational

institutions and the job market. We believe that a more

significant connection between academia and industry

will lead to better-equipped graduates and, in turn a more

productive workforce. One way to achieve this is by expanding

our educational offerings to cater to the diverse needs of

learners across the globe ranging from formal education to

skill-based boot camps to their study abroad needs and, finally,

the targeted career services to ensure they meet with desired

career ROI. Our focus has remained within the adult learning

segment where the real career outcomes and ROI happens.

Chairperson,

upGrad Education

Pvt. Ltd.

We have the world’s 1% universities in our network and a

presence across 100+ countries. Although upGrad continues

to strengthen its operations across North America, APAC,

Middle East and UK, its focus would keep multiplying in India.

And why not, even the recent UN report has entrusted us with

the title of the world’s most populous country beating China

in numbers, which automatically increases our chance of

becoming a global talent superpower.

Collaborating with

Industry Experts

Strengthening the Learning

Curve in Times when

Automation is Taking Over

To bridge the gap between academia and industry, it is crucial

to involve industry practitioners in the educational process. By

incorporating their expertise into the curriculum, we can ensure

that the skills taught in our programs are directly applicable

to the job market. This collaboration could take various forms,

from guest lectures, and workshops to mentorship programs

and internships.

Of course, bridging the gap between academia and industry is

not without its challenges. Some organizations are grappling

with the growing demand for digital roles and the widening

digital skills gap. Although talent risk is a top priority for CEOs,

not all organizations are investing in upskilling and reskilling

initiatives. To address this issue, upGrad is committed to

spurring innovation in providing quality career outcomes and

driving educational inclusion through our online courses.

By doing so, we aim to help organizations invest in their

workforce’s skills and minimize employee turnover.

The Road Ahead

India’s learning, skilling and workforce development sector

is huge. It may have encountered certain hiccups across the

K12, tuition and test-prep segments, but the adult learning

and Lifelong learning segments would continue to grow. We

are in an upskilling evolution of all times and individuals would

require to constantly learn. As an ecosystem, India’s learning,

skilling and workforce development sector has demonstrated

immense resilience against macroeconomic turbulences and

would continue to grow onwards and upwards.

within the adult learning

segment where the real
