CELEBRATING
Although Daubenmire Printing
Innovations is celebrating it’s 10th
anniversary, our
history goes way
back to 1931!
In January of
1931, Charles
Alexander and
Charles Harman
began a printing
service in
Middletown
known as the Consolidated Printing
Company. The company was located at
1232 Central Avenue. Every major
advancement in the industry was used
including the speediest printing
equipment and freshest designs.
Consolidated quickly became known as
an efficient organization with a
reputation of producing a good
product.
Over the next 20 years, Consolidated
Printing Company added office
supplies, office furniture and office
machines.
The business was incorporated in
January of 1951 and moved down the
street to 1626 Central Avenue. Two years
later, Charles Alexander passed. The
business was carried on by Charles
Harman until August 1, 1957 when
George Reed and Robert Stewart
purchased Consolidated Inc. stock.
In 1960 they moved
the business down
the street to 1728
Central Avenue. They
also bought two
other properties to
add to the business -
one at 1718
Philadelphia Avenue
and one at 1717
First Avenue.
Stewart stayed
with the
business until
May 1, 1961
when Cletus
Hornback
purchased his
share of the
company.
Hornback and
Reed operated the business until 1970
when Reed retired and Hornback
purchased his share of the business.
On February 1, 1976, Hornback sold the
company to Jim Burke and Gary
Daubenmire who named it
Consolidated
Business Products.
Jim and Gary grew
the business to 22
employees.
In 1982, Jim Burke
and Gary
Daubenmire split
the company. Jim
took over the office supplies,
equipment and furniture, changing the
name to Consolidated, Inc. Gary took
over the printing side of the business,
calling it Daubenmire’s Printing. Gary
moved the printing company to 1205

Vail Avenue at that time. Jim sold the
office supply and furniture division to
Staples in 2005. He
later sold the office
equipment
division to Xerox.
In 1983, a teen-aged Gina
Gunderson, the current owner of
Daubenmire Printing Innovations,
came to work
at
Daubenmire’s
Printing. Some
of her job
duties
included
taking orders,
typesetting
and making
film plates in
the dark room
for the
printing
presses.
She occasionally delivered jobs as well.
In 1987, Gina left the company to work
for another printing company that was
closer to her home in Hamilton, Ohio.
In 1984, the company moved back to
Central Avenue in what is now the
Middletown Chamber of Commerce
building at 1500/1504 Central Avenue.
In 2000 Daubenmire’s Printing moved
to its current location at 1527 Central
Avenue.
The years passed with Daubenmire’s
Printing being successful. Eventually,
Gary Daubenmire decided to start
looking toward retirement.
In 2013, a mutual acquaintance told
Gina that Gary was considering selling
the business. Gina was looking for a
new opportunity, so she contacted Gary
and they reconnected in June of 2013.
They started discussing the sale of
the business to Gina and what
things would look like moving
forward. After several months of
communication, Gina became
the owner of Daubenmire’s
Printing Company on February 28th,
2014.
Since taking ownership, the name was
changed to Daubenmire Printing
Innovations, and the staff has grown
from five
full-time
employees
to 10 with a
combined
155 years of
service!
Under Gina’s leadership, the revenue of
the business has grown significantly.
Daubenmire Printing Innovations has
made a name for itself through
outstanding customer service and
quality print products.
Here’s hoping for another 93 years of
doing business in downtown
Middletown!
