2022-2023 SMUGGLING IN INDIA REPORT
It is heartening to learn about the 66th Foundation Day of the Directorate of Revenue
Intelligence (DRI). Greetings and best wishes to all DRI personnel who have been
associated with the Directorate over the years.
The publication of the ‘Smuggling in India Report 2022-2023’ befits the occasion.
The dedication and commitment of its workforce in strengthening the nation’s economy
is commendable. Through multidimensional efforts, DRI has been contributing
towards curbing various threats and malpractices inimical to the nation’s interests.
Prompt and timely action by the Directorate against economic offenders serves as
a deterrent and underlines the importance of upholding legal and ethical standards
in economic transactions. As one of the guardians of the nation’s fiscal health, DRI
continues to make significant progress.
With the adoption of Al-enabled tools, DRI is getting prepared to be future-ready. In the
age of digital payments, when virtual and cyber threats abound, the Directorate will
increasingly need to work in sync with global organisations to counter such threats.
The period till 2047 presents an opportunity to each one of us to strive to realise the
vision of building an inclusive, developed and self-reliant India. Given this backdrop,
the role of institutions such as DRI becomes even more critical.
May the 66th Foundation Day motivate members of the Directorate to put their best
