POLICY OF THE MONTH

Ever wondered how those online quizzes you take, or the apps you download,

handle the personal info you share? Well, there's some fresh news on that front. The

Indian Parliament just passed the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and it's all

about keeping your digital data safe and sound. In an era where our digital footprints

expand with every click, the sanctity of personal data has never been more paramount.

This recent Act by the Indian Parliament serves as a beacon in this complex digital terrain.

Consider the vast digital ecosystem we inhabit. Every online interaction, from academic

research to social media engagement, contributes to a repository of personal data. This

Act seeks to ensure that such data isn't misused. It mandates that entities, termed 'Data

Fiduciaries', must transparently convey their intentions when accessing our digital traces.

Imagine your personal data as a diary. In the past, this diary was left open for anyone to

read.

Now, with this new Act, there's a lock on it. Companies, or what the Act calls

'Data Fiduciaries', now have to tell you why they want to peek inside your diary

and what they'll do with the secrets they find. Cool, right?
