How to Protect Your Flipbook?

As a Publuu user, you can create multiple flipbooks with various content. It is understandable that sometimes you want to protect some personal data or sensitive content you’ve created and don’t want to share it in public. With Publuu you don’t have to worry about your content since our platform allows you to protect your flipbooks using various methods.

This article presents the following ways of protecting your flipbook:

  • Set a password,
  • Disable downloading,
  • Disable sharing,
  • Disable printing,
  • Disable Google indexing.

If you want to learn more about each of them, carry on reading this guide.

SET A PASSWORD

If you wish to protect your content against unauthorized access, Publuu gives you a chance to set a password to your flipbook in a fast and easy way. If you do so, your flipbook will open only after typing the correct password.

If you wish to set up a password to your flipbook, follow these simple steps below.

After signing in to your Publuu account, click the CUSTOMIZE button in the control panel.

customize button

On the left side of the viewer, you’ll see multiple customization options. Head over to the SECURITY tab and click it to open.

As you can see, the password protection is off by default.

Now all you need to do is to shift the switch to enable Password Protection (it turns blue when gets active) and then type the suitable password in the input below.

TIP: Set a strong, at least 6-characters-password, containing numbers and/or capital letters to make it hard to break.

Click the SAVE button in the left-hand corner to update the changes you’ve made.

After enabling password protection, you can notice that the preview of your flipbook has changed. If you can see it like this:

password protected document

It means your flipbook is password protected and safe. Now when you send a direct link to your protected flipbook, remember to share the password as well!

Don’t want your flipbook to be private anymore? You can disable the password protection anytime you want, just go to the SECURITY tab and shift the switch to turn off this function.

DISABLE DOWNLOADING

Downloading your document is possible by default right after creating it. However, if you create semi-sensitive content, you may not want it to be downloaded or later distributed.

So to protect your content from being downloaded, Publuu lets you disable it with a few clicks. Just go to the MENU tab available in the customization panel, and click it.

menu tab

In the drop-down menu, you will see various flipbook options that you can enable or disable for your flipbook’s viewers, but focus on DOWNLOAD PDF. As you can see, it is active by default.

To disable this function, shift the switch next to it. It will become grey, which means this option is turned off.

Then press the SAVE button on the left corner.

Notice that there is no download icon in the bar above your flipbook – it will be unavailable until you enable downloading your flipbook again.

DISABLE SHARING

As you have already deactivated downloading your flipbook, you surely want to disable sharing as well.

If you want to prevent sharing your flipbook anywhere on the web since its content is private, you need to turn off the sharing option.

To do so, open the MENU tab and head over to SHARE. Then shift the switch to disable it (it will become grey).

As in the previous case, the icon of sharing will be removed from the top bar, and sharing your flipbook will not be possible anymore.

Remember to press the SAVE button when you finish editing your flipbook to save all the changes.

DISABLE PRINTING

Another way to protect your content is by disabling printing. As you know, if printing is enabled, anyone can print your PDF directly from the viewer by just clicking the printer icon right above your flipbook; but if you disable printing your document, this icon will be removed from the top bar.

Thus, how to disable printing?

In the customization panel, go to the MENU tab and click it to open. Now find the PRINT option. It is active by default, but if you want to deactivate it, you have to shift the switch to make the button grey.

Then press the SAVE button on the left.

If you change your mind and wish to have the printing option enabled again, just go to MENU and shift the switch to become blue and active again.

DISABLE GOOGLE INDEX

All flipbooks created with Publuu are Google indexed by default, which means they are visible for Google and the most popular search engines. If you wish to hide your content from their indexes, you’d have to disable this option.

Go to the PREFERENCES tab in the customization menu on the left, click it to open,

preferences tab

and find the GOOGLE INDEX switch on the list below. Then shift it to disable this option.

Don’t worry, deactivating this function does not cause any harm to your content, but it does prevent it from being indexed for search engine crawlers so that search engines won’t be able to find and show your content on their results pages.
