Dea Friends of te Maio Art Center,

It is with immense gratitude and pride that I share the 2024 Impact Report on behalf of the Board

of Directors. It was a year of growth, creativity, and deep community connection at the Marion

Art Center. With each exhibition, performance, workshop, and community event, the MAC has

continued to fulfill its mission of providing inclusive, educational, and inspirational arts experiences

for all.

We’ve made steady progress on our three-year Strategic Plan (2024-2026)*, staying aligned with its

forward-facing goals: expanding the number and mix of exhibitions and performances, increasing

adult and youth programming, and enhancing outreach communications. We also implemented

a new data management platform and, while not ashy, it is a vital tool that professionalizes and

streamlines every function at the MAC.

Our growth is constrained by the physical size of our historic building, and in 2024 we conducted

a thorough assessment of our space and options for improvement. In 2025, we’re evaluating

the feasibility of funding the structural changes needed to expand exhibition, performance and

classroom space, modernize existing areas and ensure full accessibility for people with disabilities.

We’re pleased to report that our finances continue to strengthen, with net revenue exceeding

budget expectations in every category, ending 2024 with net revenue surplus of $34,373 to invest in

exciting new goals.

As we look ahead to the future, we do so with optimism. The MAC remains committed to expanding

opportunities for artistic expression, deepening our community partnerships, and fostering a

welcoming environment where all are valued and inspired. We invite you to join us on this journey—

whether as a participant, supporter, or advocate for the arts.

Our deepest thanks go to our dedicated members, generous donors, talented artists, and

committed volunteers, whose support and enthusiasm fuel our work and ensure that the arts remain

a vital and accessible part of our community. Together, we are building a vibrant and creative future

for Marion and beyond.

With appreciation,

Pippa Asker

MAC Kid’s Programs:

Creativity, Condence, and Connection

At the MAC, the arts provide a space where kids can express

themselves freely, build confidence, and uncover their own

imagination and talent. Through theater, music, and visual arts,

children develop problem-solving skills, empathy, and a strong

sense of self—all while having fun!

When kids engage in creative expression, they’re not just

making art; they’re building friendships, learning teamwork, and

strengthening their voice in the world. The arts empower our

young creators to dream big, take risks, and inspire change in

their communities.

Unlocking Creativity and Self-Discovery

Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or stepping onto the stage after years away,

the arts offer a powerful avenue for self-discovery and personal growth. At the MAC, artists of all skill

levels find a welcoming space where creativity ourishes, perspectives expand, and friendships form.

Engaging in artistic expression boosts confidence, relieves stress, and fosters a sense of belonging.

We believe that art isn’t just about technique—it’s about connection, renewal, and the endless

possibilities of creative exploration.

MAC Gallery Exhibitions – Celebrating talent and voices from our area and beyond

The MAC Gallery Exhibitions celebrate the creativity that thrives within our community. Each exhibition

shows the vision, passion, and talent of local artists, offering a glimpse into the beauty and stories that

shape our lives.

By giving artists a platform to share their

work, the MAC Gallery cultivates a deeper

appreciation for the creative voices in our midst.

Every brushstroke, every captured image, every

sculpted form speaks to our shared emotions

and experiences, inspiring new ways of thinking

and reminding us that art is not just something

to be admired—it is something that unites us.

MAC Theater Programs:

The Power of Storytelling

Theater is more than just entertainment—it’s a catalyst

for connection, growth, and transformation. Whether

you’re on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience,

theater has the power to transport, inspire, and unite.

Through storytelling, we explore human emotions,

challenge perspectives, and bring communities

together. From the thrill of the spotlight to the magic

of collaboration, the stage is a place where imagination

comes to life—and everyone has a role to play.

Paul Kandarian is a working actor in big-screen

productions and TV. He began his acting journey on the

MAC stage at the age of 53. “I wish I’d started sooner,

but you come to your joy when you’re ready. I found

mine at the MAC and for that I am eternally grateful.”

In the Community:

The MAC Beyond Its Walls

Art has the power to

transform lives, but

only when it can be

experienced. By offering

performances, workshops,

and creative experiences

in public spaces, the MAC

reaches individuals who

may never have stepped

into the gallery, attended

a play, or even explored

their own artistic potential.

When art is woven into

public life, it strengthens

the entire community.

Special Events – the Magic of the MAC

There’s something magical about witnessing the

impact the MAC has on the heart of Marion during

our special events. As hundreds of people arrive

in droves, their excitement and energy fill the air,

creating an atmosphere that’s nothing short of

electric.

It’s in these moments that the true power of the MAC

is on full display—bringing people together, sparking

joy, and fostering connections that strengthen

the fabric of our town. Seeing the smiles, hearing

the laughter, and

feeling the sense

of belonging is

both humbling

and inspiring, a

testament to the

profound and lasting

impact the MAC has

on the community

we all love.

Music at the MAC:

Connecting Through Sound

MAC musical performances are uplifting,

inspirational and, often, foot-stomping fun.

Audiences experience a variety of genres -

emerging artists, singer/songwriter orginals,

classical masterpieces, ethnic traditions, and all

variations of jazz.

Science confirms what we instinctively feel—music

synchronizes our brains, builds a shared identity,

and strengthens our sense of community.

MAC music lessons give both children and adults

the opportunity to develop new techniques,

explore different styles, and build the confidence

to express their unique talents.
