CLINT WALKER REVIEW OF “THE DANSING STAR”

My friend James Drury introduced me to the writing of

author Kirby Jonas when he sent me four of Jonas’s novels

that he had narrated on audio. I was so enthralled with the

first book, The Dansing Star, that when it was over, I called

Jim to tell him, “You made me forget to do my chores.”

Kirby’s talents surpass many of the greats. Both as an author,

and now as a friend, I would count him among the top of his

game.

BUCK TAYLOR REVIEW OF “THE SECRET OF TWO HAWKS”

I won’t spend time on a lot of flowery words. I will only say

that not only can Kirby Jonas beat me in a fast-draw

competition—which, not to brag, is pretty hard to do—but his

depictions of the Old West are some of the most perfect I have

ever seen, not to mention beautiful to the point of poetry. You

won’t regret picking up any Kirby Jonas novel, but do yourself

a favor and start out with his Western Writers of America

Spur Award-winning novel, The Secret of Two Hawks.

JAMES DRURY REVIEW OF “DEATH OF AN EAGLE”

What can I even say about young author Kirby Jonas that most

likely has not been said by thousands of readers before me?

From the very first page of Kirby’s novel, Death of an Eagle, I

was a Kirby Jonas fan. He has since become like a son to me,

but I am not the kind of person to let close relationships color

my honest review of someone’s work. Even if I didn’t know

Jonas, I would tell you that he is my favorite Western author,

and closer to the top of my list of favorite novelists than any

man of his age has a right to be.

RICHARD WHEELER REVIEW OF “DEATH OF AN EAGLE”

Kirby Jonas. A young man, seemingly far too young, to write

with the authority I have come to expect from authors much

longer established than he. Jonas’s Death of an Eagle, I predict,

will one day be brought up alongside classics like Guthrie’s

The Big Sky.

WIN BLEVINS REVIEW OF KIRBY JONAS BOOKS

It is seldom—in fact, perhaps never, in my experience—that an

author of Jonas’s young age comes onto the writing scene,

especially as a self-published author, with such an incredible

rich, authentic voice that seems as if it must come from a

person twice his age. Jonas’s writing of the fabled Old West is

replete with beautiful, almost poetic phrases that bring the

country to life. More importantly, his dialog rings so true that

it feels as if you are listening to real conversations, not reading

them on the written page. To say that Kirby Jonas is a national

treasure, both to the world of literature, and to the world in

general, is a raw, casual understatement. We will never see

another like this young author—that is a truth on which I will

stake my entire writing reputation.

RON FELDMAN REVIEW OF KIRBY JONAS BOOKS

"Kirby Jonas has a drive far beyond the average Western

writer to learn every single thing about every topic he covers

in his writing. I was amazed by Jonas's knowledge of the

Sonoran Desert of Arizona, of horses, and old time gear, guns,

and even hats. He even delved deeply into the true-to-life old

lawmen of Arizona, the plants, and the native people. Jonas's

first writing has not only this level of knowledge, but the

action of a Louis L'Amour novel and the descriptive power of

a Zane Grey."

MIKE BLAKELY REVIEW OF “THE DANSING STAR”

"Finally, a voice as real and honest as thunder rumbles from

the canyons and tinderbox towns of the wild Old West. The

voice belongs to Kirby Jonas. Every shining detail of The

Dansing Star carries the stamp of authenticity and drums like

the hoofbeat of a sure-footed horse at full gallop."

DON COLDSMITH REVIEW OF KIRBY JONAS BOOKS

"If you have picked up one of Kirby Jonas's novels, take a deep

breath, and you might as well scoot to the edge of your seat.

You will be there soon enough anyway. Kirby Jonas is one of

the best of the young writers who breathe a new freshness

into the traditional Western."

ELMER KELTON REVIEW OF KIRBY JONAS BOOKS

"To pick up and start reading a Kirby Jonas novel is to

know you can rest assured you are about to be well fed on

fast-paced action, clean, wholesome storylines, and deeply

researched, authentic detail. I cannot recommend a new

author more." -- Elmer Kelton, author and 7-time Spur

Award winner

LEE NELSON REVIEW OF “DEATH OF AN EAGLE”

"Death of an Eagle establishes Kirby Jonas as one of

America's most promising Western writers. He writes with

the passion of a young Jack London. For anyone who likes

Westerns, Jonas is must reading." -- Lee Nelson, author of

the Storm Testament series

LOREN ESTLEMAN REVIEW OF “DEATH OF AN EAGLE”

"Death of an Eagle is a tour-de-force of poetic

descriptions, sharp period dialogue, and the kind of action

that whitens one's knuckles. Kirby Jonas is one of the best

new finds in an American genre that continues to grow

and deepen." -- Loren D. Estleman, author

BUCK TAYLOR REVIEW OF KIRBY JONAS BOOKS

"Kirby Jonas is one of those rare Western authors who

actually understands firearms, both their history, their

strengths and weaknesses. He knows the limitations both

of firearms and of the men of the frontier who used them,

and that kind of profound knowledge goes a long way with

me. To Jonas I say this: My sincere thanks for keeping the

West alive." -- Buck Taylor, actor/artist
