At the Table with Jason Singh
Head of Sustainability
Jason Singh
What
motivates
you
to
contribute
to
creating
positive impact?
Working within our industry
there are many issues, one of
which is related to carbon
emissions,
an
essential
for
ceramics and glass production.
Innovations are being explored
with
renewable
energy;
however these aren’t always
entirely feasible. This has led us
to explore different solutions
which
address
other
challenges, such as material
scarcity, the use of recycled
content
and
supply
chain
transparency – all of which
have positive impacts to both
the
CO2
footprint
and
biodiversity. In some cases the
supply chains we work with are
multi-tiered with complex layers,
so being able to dig deeper
also ensures social compliance
standards are met.
What do you see as the most pressing challenge in the industry
that needs to be addressed?
What sustainability initiatives
are you looking forward to, for
the next financial year?
In a broader sense it’s the
motivation to doing a good
thing for future generations and
being
able
to
have
that
contribution. From my time
working within sustainability,
the focuses have constantly
changed from the emphasis on
carbon, to workers rights and
transparency
in
the
supply
chain. It’s been interesting to
understand and adapt our
focus to align with the impact
we believe we can contribute
towards.
There
are
also
commercial benefits which fully
need to be accounted for,
which
maintain
the
future
strength of the business. By
looking into new innovations
and
making
the
most
of
collaborations it shows how far
this value can extend to.
Here at Pure Table Top we’re
working on some really exciting
developments, all through the
power of collaboration. These
focus
on
the
challenges
mentioned
with
carbon
emissions and supply chain
transparency. We are actively
working on understanding our
impacts at product level to be
able to set strategies on making
improvements. We also have
close working relationships with
some our retail partners, which
include
interesting
conversations regarding how to
collaborate
with
consumer
ready product.
Another issue worth noting is
overconsumption. There is no
quick fix on this as it is, and
will continue to be, driven by
fast fashion. We do however
have
some
exciting
developments to be the catalyst
for changing this mindset.
These are examples of how, as
a business, we have needed to
re-evaluate what and how we
can make positive impacts.

People & Wellbeing
Living by our value of ‘Be Curious’, everyday is a school day at Pure. We always
encourage learning for our employees, whether this be for their wellbeing or their
skills needed to complete their work.
In December, David McClements came to Pure Table Top to help build success
through account management. He delivered an engaging training session; inspiring
the desire to learn, providing real skills, and ultimately helping us towards delivering
our objectives.
“Every once in a while in my line of work you get to spend
time with an outstanding bunch of people, in a lovely
surrounding, with plentiful fun and participation. That was
me last week with the whole team at Pure Table Top -
Tanith & Wendy invited me to spend the day sharing how
to grow existing accounts through a series of very simple
but powerful steps which really resonated with the group,
and it was such a pleasure.”
Tea Time Tuesday is a safe space
where the team can chat about all
manner of wellbeing issues. Our

AWARENESS
Being given two volunteering days a year is an
incredible gift that empowers me to connect with and
support my local community. It’s a chance to step
outside my day-to-day work and contribute to
something greater, lending my time to causes that
make a real difference to those around me.
Alongside our chosen charities, all employees at Pure are encouraged to
take advantage of their 2 Paid Volunteering Days for any charity or cause of
their choice.

Future Shift Training Session
This year we have been supporting a local charity called Open Hands. Open
Hands are a charity that provide emergency support and care for people in need in
Leicester. Empowering individuals to move forward in their lives through offering
practical help, advice, skills training and volunteering opportunities.
A huge thank you to Pure Table Top for their amazing ongoing
support and for providing such beautiful crockery to Open
Hands! We truly value this partnership, and we’re so grateful to
the teams who came to help in our centre.
Your generosity makes such a difference to our work – we love
working with you!
Debbie, Open Hands
During B Corp month the team had an insightful and inspiring visit
from fellow, local B Corp, Future Shift ♻
Future Shift are on a mission to redesign sustainability for business.
They believe that all businesses deserve equal access to the highest
level of sustainability, reporting and certifications.
During Future Shift’s visit, they started off with a company-wide
presentation
all
about
the
different
interpretations
of
what
sustainability really means and how businesses can weave this into
their identity to enforce real change. This was followed by focus
groups with different teams to work on some very exciting projects
coming soon.
In May 2023, a team of 6 from Pure rocked their inner
DIY-SOS. With paintbrushes and toolboxes in hand,
they spent 2 crazy days revamping the community hub
room at Action Homeless.
Action Homeless is a Leicester-based charity that helps
people out of the cycle of homelessness and offers
support and advice about the future.
The team orchestrated the whole makeover brilliantly, from organising
the new décor, to sourcing new furniture, and shelving. Sanding, oiling,
varnishing, scraping, painting and building, they created a really
fabulous place for the clients to relax, have a cuppa, and chat to
professionals to help them integrate back into everyday life.
