CROYDON’S BUSH TELEGRAPH - EDITION 4 - APRIL 2024
Hi all in incredible Croydon,
Firstly I’d like to thank you all for re-electing me
as your Mayor for another four years, I am truly
honoured to continue to represent this great
Shire and I guarantee I will not take my foot off
the throttle so Croydon gets its fair share of the
pie. I’d like to congratulate Jono and Wayne for
being re-elected and welcome on board Frosty
and Mandy. I’d also like to take this opportunity
to thank Kim and Peter for all their hard work
during the last term. Unfortunately, due to
unforeseen
circumstances,
Councillor
elect
Wayne Bing Chew was unable to attend the
swearing-in
ceremony,
resulting
in
the
unavailability of photographs from the event.
A WORD FROM OUR MAYOR
Trevor Pickering
Last week we had our swearing in ceremony so
now it’s all systems go. With this being an
election year, I will be continually promoting
Croydon Shire, as you all know in election year
the Government make lots of promises, and
throw money around, be assured that I will be
getting our fair share and holding them
accountable whilst also lobbying the State
Opposition for funding.
On the 17 April I, along with the other 76 Mayors
and CEOs of this great State, will be heading to
Parliament House in Brisbane for meetings
with
Premier
Miles,
Opposition
Leader
Crisafulliand an assortment of Ministers. As a
long serving Mayor I already have a close
relationship with some of these folk and they
are all aware of my pet projects and my passion
for Croydon, anyway I’ll fill you in on these
meetings in the next Bush Tele.
So that’s enough for this month – short and
sweet – and I’ll see you next month.
Cheers Trevor

But Brian's contributions extend far beyond
the workplace. A passionate advocate for
youth development, he recognises the
importance
of
sports
in
fostering
confidence and teamwork. Determined to
spare future generations the challenges he
faced, Brian is actively involved in local
sports clubs, serving as President of the
Croydon
Brumbys
footy
team
and
Treasurer of the Croydon Fishing Club. He
also finds time to take to the pitch with the
Carneys cricket team, showcasing his
versatility and love for competition.
Yet, amidst his busy schedule, Brian
remains committed to paying it forward.
Recognising the value of mentorship and
practical
training,
he's
taken
on
the
responsibility of overseeing a trainee water
operator and is eager to welcome an
apprentice plumber into the fold. When
he’s not fixing leaks or scoring goals he’s
inspiring our next generation of superstars.
In the heart of Croydon, there's a man who wears many hats –
plumber, footy player, and mentor. His name is Brian, and his
journey from boarding school to future community leader is
nothing short of inspiring.
Born and raised in Croydon as the
youngest of four siblings, Brian's early
years
were

adventure.
Upon
graduating boarding school, he returned
home and found himself drawn to the local
footy scene, after being poached by the
Atherton Roosters, he moved to Atherton to
play the game semi-professionally whilst
also undertaking his plumbing apprentice-
ship , this laid the foundation for a lifelong
love of the game.
It was during this time that fate intervened,
bringing Brian back into the orbit of his
former
flame,
Irene.
Their
rekindled
romance blossomed, and soon they were
building a life together, anchored by their
two beautiful children, Nate and Savannah.
Today, Brian and his family proudly call
Croydon home once again. Starting as a
plumber for the Council, Brian's dedication
and work ethic propelled him to the role of
Town & Maintenance Supervisor, where he

Meet Julie, our interim records officer and
a baking enthusiast with a fascinating
journey
from
Melbourne
to
Croydon.
Hailing from the northern suburbs of
Melbourne, Julie is the youngest of three
children, navigating the challenges of
growing up with two older brothers.
Julie's professional journey began with a
Certificate 3 in Office Administration after
high school, a 3 month stint at a solicitors
office told her the legal profession was not
for her. Her true passion was discovered in
the
pharmaceutical
field,
where
she
flourished
as
a
Qualified
Dispensary
Technician
for
over
26
years.
Her
dedication led her to spend 14 years
serving in one pharmacy in the Melbourne
suburb of Strathmore.
Becoming active on the social media
platform,
she
rekindled
friendships and ultimately reconnected
with her old school pal, and now partner,
drawn
to
the
relaxed
lifestyle
and
captivating sunsets and sunrises.
Julie's
transition
to
Croydon
included
securing
a
position
as
a
Depot
Administration
Officer
before
being
seconded to her current role as Records
Officer at the main Council building.
Despite
the
challenges,
Julie
finds
fulfillment in her work and embraces
the community spirit of Croydon.
Outside of her work environment, Julie
indulges
in
her
passion
for
baking,
delighting colleagues and friends with her
creations known as "Jewels Treats." When
she's not in the kitchen, Julie enjoys binge-
watching
Netflix
and
cherishing
the
community lifestyle of Croydon, although
she
admits
to
missing
Melbourne's
renowned coffee culture and long walks on
the beach.
So here’s to Julie thanks for adding to our
vibrant community of Croydon.
