INTERVIEW
Independent musicians around the world have embraced the International Indie Music Festival (IIMF) over
the past two years, and the third edition is quickly approaching. From November 22 to 24, 2024, the laid-
back city of Trivandrum, India, will once again host music fans from across the globe as they gather to
experience IIMF Edition 3.
The IIMF was created as a collaborative effort between **Kerala Arts and Crafts Village (KACV)**, a Kerala
Government Tourism Department initiative dedicated to preserving and promoting the state's rich artistic
and cultural heritage and **Lazie Indie Magazine**, a global music magazine that unites musicians
worldwide. The Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, located in the scenic surroundings of Kovalam, is known for
its vibrant cultural space, where artisans and artists showcase their traditional craftsmanship, making it
the perfect venue to host this prestigious indie music festival. To date, including the upcoming edition, IIMF
will have featured top-tier musicians from 20 countries, alongside some of India’s finest bands.
Sreeprasad, the COO of Kerala Arts and Crafts Village, shared his excitement: “IIMF has grown into a full-
fledged annual gathering of international and Indian indie artists. The Kerala Arts and Crafts Village has always
been at the forefront of efforts to support talent in any form—whether artisans, musicians, dancers or any other
kind of artist—regardless of their genre or stature. We keep the quality and passion of the art as the only criteria,
and we look forward to organizing and hosting a great IIMF 3.”
In its first two editions, IIMF brought together celebrated artists such as Bluesman Will Johns (nephew of
Eric Clapton and George Harrison), Iconic rocker Dave Evans (founding singer of AC/DC), Grammy-balloted
artist Lyia Meta, ISSA International Artist of the Year Anslom and frontman of Seattle based Blue Helix -
Sami Chohfi along with other International bands like Viking Queen, Dharma, Rudra, Bani, Melody
Uganda and Roc Flowers many more who shared the stage with iconic Indian bands like Agam, Indian
Ocean, and Girish and The Chronicles.
Spread over 3 days this year’s IIMF - Edition 3 promises an even more exciting lineup, headlined by the
legendary metal band **Martyr** and featuring top Indian acts like **Yellow Diary**, **Parikrama**,
**Dualist Inquiry** and **Taba Chake**, alongside international performers such as **Afrodelic** from
Lithuania, **Cold Drop** from Denmark, **Deer MX** from Mexico, and **Lazy Fifty** from New Zealand.
The festival will also showcase popular acts like **Kulam** **Wild Wild Women, ** DIY Disruption**,
**Gabri**, **43 Miles**, **Asal Kolar** **Prarthana**, and **Street Academic**.
With **Starvalue** as the new partner for event execution, IIMF this year is set to be a high-impact edition,
ensuring that the world of indie music will once again witness and celebrate some of the best music from
around the globe.
Jay Pillai, founding editor of Lazie Indie Magazine, added, "Lazie Indie is a community of artists worldwide,
and we are truly honored to collaborate and partner to create and run the IIMF with KACV. Lazie Indie Magazine
has only one ai - celebrating great artists globally - and the IIMF has been a great occasion where we come
together as one, breaking both geographic and man-made barriers. Come on in and let us celebrate great music
again!”
Prepare to be mesmerized by music, culture and art as the IIMF 3 kicks off this November!

GIRLS NEXT DOOR
Cover Story
Girls Next Door
Girls Next Door, the all-female country music group that captivated audiences in the 1980s, remains a
beloved name in the genre. With their groundbreaking sound and powerful harmonies, the band—
comprised of Cindy Nixon, Diane Williams, Doris King, and Tammy Stephens—paved the way for future
female groups in country music. Formed under the direction of producer Tommy West, known for his
work with Jim Croce, the band expertly blended traditional country instrumentation with
contemporary pop elements to create a unique, forward-thinking sound.
In 1986, after years of hard work performing live shows and making radio appearances, Girls Next Door
signed with MTM Records. Their self-titled debut album marked the beginning of their commercial
success, driven by the hit single "Love Will Get You Through Times with No Money." The song became a
fan favorite and climbed into the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The relatable lyrics,
combined with their tight harmonies and fresh sound, made the song a staple for country music fans.
Their follow-up single, "Slow Boat to China," also earned success, further establishing the group’s
position in the country music scene.
Girls Next Door stood out with their ability to blend the traditional and modern, mixing steel guitars
and fiddles with contemporary pop influences. Their harmonies were unparalleled, and while solo
performances dominated the country scene at the time, the collaborative vocal work of Girls Next Door
set them apart from their peers.
The band’s blend of accessible lyrics and powerful vocal arrangements resonated with a wide audience,
particularly with female listeners who connected with the themes of love, heartbreak, and resilience. In
an era dominated by male artists, Girls Next Door proved that women could succeed in country music,
not just as soloists, but as part of a cohesive, successful group. Their fresh approach and relatable style
helped pave the way for future female country acts, showing the industry that women could hold their
own in a traditionally male-dominated space.
After disbanding in 1991, the influence of Girls Next Door endured, inspiring generations of female
country artists. In 2022, after more than three decades, Girls Next Door made a triumphant return,
reuniting to perform their classic hits and rekindle the magic of their early years. Presented by Galaxy
FM to Lazie Indie readers, their comeback generated excitement among longtime fans and introduced a
new audience to their groundbreaking music.
Their return wasn’t just a nostalgia trip—it was a powerful reminder of the lasting influence Girls Next
Door had on country music. Fans of their earlier work were thrilled to see them perform live again, and
the group has hinted at the possibility of recording new material, signaling a new chapter in their
storied career.
Girls Next Door’s legacy in country music is enduring. Their ability to create powerful, harmony-rich
country music remains a testament to their talent and pioneering spirit. With their return, they
continue to remind audiences, both old and new, that great music never goes out of style.
DJ Grant and Barbara from Galaxy FM New Zealand spoke to Girls Next Door on behalf of Lazie Indie
Magazine.

Grant and Barbara speaks to Tammy Stephens
LIM 10
Barbara: After a long hiatus, how does it feel to be back with your new single, “Livin' in the Rain”?-
Tammy: We are so excited to be back with the new EP, Now or Never, and our single, “Livin' in the Rain”.
It is our only acappella song on this EP. We love singing acappella. We feel it really showcases our
harmonies and also the evolution of our voices together over the last few decades. It is the only gospel
song on the album, too. We did a fun video for this song. Check it out on our YouTube channel.
Grant: The song's gospel roots are very evident. How does your faith influence your music?
Tammy: Our faith is the key element of Girls Next Door. From the very beginning, we said that “we are a
match made in heaven”….. from our harmonies, our personalities to the richness of our friendships, we
believe that God put us together for a bigger purpose than just making great music together. We desire to
inspire women of all ages. We hope to encourage through our music and conversation, anyone and
everyone that listens. We now choose our music based on the experiences and wisdom gained by our
“many trips around the sun” and want to communicate that life is better lived and better managed with
God in control. We pray about every aspect of GND and want Him to guide us in all we do.
Barbara: Can you share the creative process behind “Livin' in the Rain” and what inspired the song's
message?
Tammy: There were many components to the process. We have been singing the song in our gospel
concerts for years. We heard it first done with a kinda bluegrassy sound and instruments. We knew it
would be a great acappella song with all of the background, tight harmonies making it lively and upbeat,
encouraging and celebrating! And the theme of the song fits Diane’s testimony perfectly. Her home was
destroyed by a tornado and then she battled cancer and WON! She saw the love of Christ and the
faithfulness of God in those tough times. We knew she could really sing this song and celebrate her
victories through the “rain”. We walked those times with her. We knew it was a great fit!
