COLLEGE & CAREER ACADEMIES
To support the current and future needs of Georgia’s businesses, high school students across
Georgia have access to training that builds their skills in high-demand areas. This impactful
training is provided through Georgia’s 50 College and Career Academies – two of those are
strategically located in Middle Georgia. Always on the forefront of workforce development,
Georgia was the first state in the country to adopt a career path requirement for all high school
students. College and Career Academies allow high school students to get an early start on
accredited college level courses and technical certification programs through Georgia’s College
and Career Academy Network. Each Academy is built through partnerships between a local
school system, a technical college, and local business leaders to produce a long-term talent
pipeline for the workforce needs specific to each community.
WORK STUDY PROGRAMS & ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
Middle Georgia State University work study program: “Work-study is a great opportunity to earn
real, on-the-job training and is a way to obtain important pre-graduation work experience.
Students should expect to treat work-study jobs as professional positions where they can
develop skills and build solid references for future employment. Work-study employees are vital
to the College's daily operations and are a valued part of our workforce.”
Central Georgia Technical College work study program: “Work study is a federal program
designed to provide employment opportunities to eligible students. These are opportunities
within various departments around the college. Students will work in pre-approved positions on
or off campus. Available positions must include community service positions and at least one
position must be a reading tutor for children in a reading tutoring project or performing family
literacy activities in a family literacy project.”
Peach County High School Work Based Learning: “The PCHS Work-Based Learning Program
assists businesses with building a highly trained, technologically sophisticated and career
oriented young workforce. Their goal is to assist in the creation of a strong support structure
between local employers, students and schools. Work-Based Learning supplies talent to address
industry workforce shortage needs. They promote an industry-driven system where employers
set occupational skills standards, collaborate on curriculum, provide work experience and certify
mastery of skills.”
Peach County High School CTAE Program – Blue Bird Partnership
Peach County High School’s Advanced Automotive Technology students has piloted a program
that allow students to earn the Blue Bird Associate Level Technician Certification. The
certification program which aligns with the current curriculum provides students with entry level
certification to perform basic maintenance tasks and troubleshooting on Blue Bird buses. Blue
Bird is the leading independent designer and manufacturer of school buses in the U.S. and is
located in Peach County. Blue Bird offers two scholarships worth $2,500 each to one
Automotive Technician pathway completer and one completer of the Agricultural Mechanics
pathway, which includes courses that heavily emphasize manufacturing skills such as welding,
wood cutting, and electrical theory. These scholarships help fund two deserving students’ post-
