2023

ATHLETIC

DRAMA

Dear Cardinals,

You are the heart and soul of Spellman, providing a firm foundation for

today's Spellman students and families. The Cardinals Come Home Event

and Hall of Fame Evening, aims to recognize and celebrate all alumni, and

in a special way, select alumni who have achieved outstanding success in

countless ways and made a lasting impact in their community. Thank you

for answering the call to come home and be with your fellow Cardinals.

We are here tonight to honor those being inducted into the Hall of Fame

but also to celebrate YOU, our alumni community that is the foundation of

our school.

As we embraced the idea of re-imagining how we do things in school

amidst the pandemic of the past years, we have also answered the call to

re-imagine our traditional stand-alone Hall of Fame events for Athletics

and Drama. There is so much to celebrate. With that, we are excited

to introduce our inaugural “Cardinals Come Home Weekend.” These

signature events offer multiple opportunities for the Spellman community

to reconnect all while celebrating what it means to be a “Cardinal” and

call Spellman ”alma mater”.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our committees for both the

Athletic Hall of Fame and the Drama Hall of Fame. Each committee’s

members carefully vetted and considered countless deserving candidates

for induction this year.

A list of worthy candidates put forth through nominations will be inducted

tonight, while other qualified nominees will remain on the list for future

consideration and induction. Please note that our monthly alumni newsletter

includes a link to nominate candidates for the Hall of Fame. Nominees

typically are Spellman alumni who graduated at least ten years ago and

have demonstrated outstanding talent while at Spellman or beyond.

Talent and service may include athletics, performing arts, visual arts,

service, and academics.

Congratulations to tonight’s inductees and to each and every one of you

for coming home to celebrate what it means to be a Cardinal.

Sequere Deum,

Daniel J. Hodes, M.A., A.B.D.

DR. DENISE BAKER-INEGBENEBO, PHD

My journey with life thus far has been an

interesting ride of discovery. I was born and

raised in Brockton, the City of Champions.

After Spellman, I worked at Brockton Family

Planning to learn more about being a nurse

practitioner. I found myself moving more towards

helping women. I then changed my path and

journeyed to Talladega College, a historically

black college in Talladega, Alabama. From

Talladega, I went to Oahu, Hawaii, for 5 years. I

lived on Hickam Air Force Base with my husband

for his first assignment in the Air Force and

worked for the UPS.

After leaving Hawaii, my daughter Maryssa and

I returned to Brockton, where my mother and

family lived. I did not know that my mother

would get diagnosed with cancer and in hindsight,

I'm glad I came home. My first career job was

the Program Director of the Boys & Girls Club.

With a team, I was responsible for the day-to-day

programming for kids and teens.

Soon, I was recruited to the Dept. Of Children

and Families as a social worker. Working with

families and communities wasn't easy, but it was

a passion. I tend to be an invested stakeholder

instead of an activist. I currently work for the

State of Massachusetts in their IT Department,

which I enjoy.

Nowadays, I am still an invested stakeholder,

following my passion of inspiring and uplifting

people by encouraging them to visit The Wellness

Journey Studio-Metaphysics Wellness Center,

where I am a licensed massage therapist and

holistic health practitioner.

DANIEL HIGGINS

Before graduating from Spellman in 2010,

Higgins took full advantage of the Spellman

experience: student government, football,

baseball and, of course, the legendary theatre

department. Per Mr. McEwan & Mrs. Bassett's

influence and inspiration, Mr. Higgins was

afforded the opportunity to create lasting

memories that are permanently impressed into

his personal reminiscences of his high school

experience. Mr. Higgins is profoundly grateful to

them and all involved in making Spellman theatre,

"SPELLMAN THEATRE."

After graduating from Saint Anselm College, Mr.

Higgins returned to the hill to join the History

Department as a first-year teacher and to "help

out" the shows. Almost a decade later, Higgins is

still on the hill, now as Department Chairperson

and Producer of Productions. He is excited to

"help out" with his 7th Christmas Show and 10th

Musical this school year.

Mr. Higgins is blessed with the gift of a wonderful

wife, Erika, and 3-year-old son, Edward, who lets

daddy stay late at work six months out of the

year, so that he can do his best to play a role

in making (just as Mr. McEwan did) Spellman

theatre..."SPELLMAN THEATRE."

When asked, Mr. Higgins said,“I'm honored

to have worked with hundreds of talented

student-thespians and student-crews over

the years. I'm thankful for the opportunity to

celebrate their theatrical accomplishments.”
