MARCH
, Jl "fhat began as a simple deck replacement evolved into_ a
\' \' complete outdoor living area. Our iØst objective was
to find a lower maintenance product when replacing the exist
ing wooden deck. That combined with a long-time dream for
a covered patio area and some hardscape motivated us to call
builder, Doug Luedloff (Suburban Homes). He told us it was
all feasible and gave us some great ideas. Doug explained that
the raised hardscape area might even be cost competitive with
the composite decking and would add great value to our home.
That was all we needed to start pŃĽg. Knowing little about
the hardscape world, we went straight to the computer! The
Lewis Landscape site caught our eye as it had photos of many
projects that had elements of what we were looking for. We met
with owner,Jim Lewis, who had some outstanding ideas for the
project and recommended we meet with Susie Sonderen, his
landscape designer. She was instrumental in determining our
desires and objectives, adding her own ideas and special touches
and coming up with a design that we were very excited about.
The gas fireplace in the covered area creates a warm, relaxing
environment on a chilly night to meet with friends and fam-
ily. The rock ãÍ enclosing the patio paver area highlights the
backyard landscaping. And to top it of there's nothing like the
sound of the water bubbling over the basalt water feature on a
sunny Oregon winter afternoon.

With the help of many quÒijed people, our dream was realized,
and we love this new extension of our home. The covered, heat
ed area extends the spring and fall seasons, allowing us to enjoy
the backyard nearly year round.
There's something magical
spending time outdoors wit
crackling fire and good frie
and family.
