BACK IN WORK AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS
Pontardawe Town FC are looking forward to the
new season and are excited to build on the success
of last season.
Having finished 4th in the Ardal League the Senior
team are hoping to build this season with the aim
of getting back to the JD Cymru South. It is going to
be a very competitive but exciting season so come
on down to Parc Ynysderw and give the team a
shout.
The U18s won the West Wales League Plate Final
last season so they, and our U19s Academy
Development side, are looking forward to big
seasons ahead.
Our Academy section, which is a FAW Category B
Academy, is seen as one of the finest in the country
and runs teams from U8s right through to Under
16s. The Academy has a tradition for developing
players to play at the top level in Wales and, in the
case of many, through to the professional ranks.
Last season our Academy U16s and U14s were both
crowned FAW National Champions. The U16s,
managed by Jon Meacock, will be joining the
Senior and U19s ranks this season whilst the U14s,
managed by Swansea legend Angel Rangel, will
look to win the U15s championship
Our Grassroots Section remains very strong with
some great coaches right through the age groups.
Last season our U15s won the West Wales Cup and
the League Cup whilst our U16s won the league
plate. There are some gaps in terms of boys and
girls age groups that we are looking to fill this
season so we are looking for volunteers to join as
coaches and team helpers. Training is provided and
we have a great team of people to support anyone
who wants to join us so please get in touch.
We also have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
academy which runs each week to provide football
opportunities to junior players of all age groups.
This is an excellently run session so get in touch for
more information. Finally, for those of us of an older
age we also have a walking football, in conjunction
with Neath Dragons, which meets every Tuesday
on the 3G at Pontardawe Leisure Centre.
Off the pitch the club have had plans for new
changing rooms approved and are now in the
process of fundraising and applying for grants.
Exciting times ahead !!

The Town Council was very pleased to finance the
transport costs for the ‘The Longest Yarn 2 Britain at
War collection’ at Pontardawe Heritage Centre. The
exhibition in July was one of only two locations in
South Wales to host this iconic exhibition
The Longest Yarn was created with guidance from
historians and was historically accurate, with each
scene unique and made with care. The Britain at war
was a study of social history in Britain during the
dark days between the 3rd September 1939 and VE
Day on the 8th May 1945.
This month we would also like to welcome,
Councillor Tudur Jones, who was Co-Opted in our
June Ordinary Meeting to fill the vacancy at our
Trebanos ward.
Over to you Tudur……

My wife, Sara is a secondary school teacher in

Just a couple of years ago, severe flooding left
Mond Valley Golf Club and the surrounding area in
disarray. But thanks to the hard work of volunteers,
club members and support from the Swansea
City Council, the club has made a remarkable
comeback.
With improved flood defences, upgraded
practice and playing facilities, and a refreshed
clubhouse, Mond Valley is once again a
vibrant hub for the local community. Regular
quiz nights, bingo, and live entertainment are
drawing in crowds, not just club members,
but residents from across the area.
From Floods to Festivals: Mond Valley Golf Club Reconnects with the Community.
And now something bigger is on the horizon. On
the 30th of August, Mond Valley Golf Club will
host a Music Festival starting at 4pm, featuring
live performances from a variety of talented acts.
It’s a celebration of how far the club and
community have come, and a chance to enjoy
great music in a great setting. Entry is free, and
everyone is welcome.
So why not be part of something special? Come
along, soak up the atmosphere and join in the

Heart Of The Valley Show 2025
It’s that time of year again, when preparations are
in full swing for this years show. Organisation starts
at the beginning of the year and builds to a
crescendo by July/August.
If someone had told us back in 2012 when we held
the first show, that it would have been such a
success, and a fixture in the calendar of so many
people, we would never have believed you. In 2012
we had a total of 14 stalls attending, 7 of which
were free charity stalls, we literally couldn’t get stall
holders to come!!! This year we have 80 stallholders
and a waiting list!!! Interestingly two of the original
seven still attend the show.
Each year we try to mix things up a bit, just to keep
it interesting for the many people who attend year
on year. This year is no exception with a few new
attractions to go alongside the old favourites like
the birds of prey and the dog and duck man, so
hopefully everyone will find plenty to interest
them.
As ever the event is free for U16’s and only £5 for
adults (Cash Only), as we stick to our founding
principle of providing a cheap family day out. The
event is put on for the whole community, and that
includes the attending public, our wonderful array
of stall holders, for many of whom this is the
biggest event that they attend, local musicians
who play throughout the day and showcase their
talent and the many local charitable organisations
that are present.
I have to take this opportunity to thank the
organising committee, who do so much work
through the year, to enable the community to
enjoy the day, and to our band of volunteers
without whom the event simply wouldn’t happen.
All of the aforementioned people do all of this on a
purely voluntary basis, and deserve great credit.
I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday 6th
September from 10.30am.
Best Wishes - Gareth

Serves 4 - Ingredients
For the burgers:
500g ground beef
1 onion, very finely chopped
1 tsp thyme, chopped
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
1 egg, whisked
For the chips:
500g floury potatoes, King Edwards are good.
200 ml Sunflower oil
Salt
To Serve:
Grated cheddar cheese of cheese slices
Shredded iceberg lettuce
Soft burger buns
Method:
This recipe is pretty easy peasy and you’ll get to eat
something very delicious at the end. Who doesn’t
like a good chip?
First put a medium pan of water onto to boil on the
hob. Add one teaspoon of salt.
Turn the oven to 200C
Now onto the chips! You know best how thick you
like your chips, but remember when making them
at home it’s better to go a little chunkier as they will
be easier to handle and less likely to fall apart. Cut
the chips (We recommend about 1cm) and place
them in the pan of boiling water.(It must be boiling
and be careful!) Cook for 5 minutes, then drain.
Leave the dry out a bit, the longer the better as this
will help to get a crispy chip.
Make your burger patties. Add all the ingredients to
a mixing bowl and squidge it all together using
your hands (in exactly the same as the meatballs in
the Polpettini recipe!) Make sure everything is really
well combined, divide the mixture into four equal
parts, roll into a ball then squash down, using your
palm, until the pattie is an even thickness of 1 cm.
Place in the fridge until ready to cook, this will help
them to firm up.
Back to your chips. Get an adult to help you with
this bit! Place a deep tray in the oven with the 200ml
of sunflower oil and leave to get really hot, 3-4
minutes. The secret to good chips is plenty of oil!
Take the tray and VERY carefully put the chips into
the tray using a spatula to coat all the potatoes with
oil. Return to the oven.
Repeat this process of turning the chips two three
times to help the chips cook evenly. Cook for 30
minutes. Once transfer to a plate with some kitchen
roll to drain off the excess oil and toss with salt.
When there is only 10 minutes cooking time left on
the chips start to cook the burgers. Heat a
tablespoon of oil in a frying pan, when hot fry each
burger for 3 minutes on each side.
Serve with your favourite sauce and a delicious soft
bun.

Sunshine, sizzling burgers, and golden chips-what
more could you want? This super tasty, fun and
easy recipe is perfect for getting the kids stuck
into cooking during the summer holidays. It’s
always a hit at our Young Cooks workshops and a
great way to build kitchen confidence while
making something delicious together. For a
lighter twist, try swapping the beef mince for
turkey mince- just as tasty, and a little leaner for
sunny-day meals.
