FOREWORD

A vision for sustainable progress at Hilti India

Sustainability has always been ingrained in the core of our organization’s

DNA, and with the introduction of our new group strategy, Lead 2030, we

have elevated our commitment to newer heights.

I am thrilled to present you our latest newsletter which provides information

on our progress in advancing the sustainability efforts within our operations

and beyond, impacting both our customers and the wider communities we

serve. Also, sustainability is a fundamental aspect of our customer promise

that reflects our conscious effort to make a difference, by reducing the overall

carbon footprint across all phases of project lifecycle.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for your unwavering

partnership and support on this journey. Together, let us

strive to create a world where sustainability is not just an

aspiration but a way of life—a world where every action

we take contributes to the betterment of our planet and

its people.

With this commitment, we remain dedicated to our

purpose of ‘Making Construction Better’ and truly

being your best partner for sustainability.

In an era where environmental consciousness takes

center stage, sustainability has emerged as a pivotal

factor shaping the practices of various industries. Among

these, the construction sector is undergoing a significant

transformation driven by the imperative to minimize its

ecological footprint. With increasing awareness of the

environmental impacts associated with construction, Indian

builders and developers are actively embracing sustainable

practices alongside innovative solutions.

Currently, buildings account for over 40% of India’s

total energy consumption. Without a shift towards more

efficient and sustainable building methods, projections

suggest that by 2050, this figure could skyrocket to over

70% of CO2 emissions.

To address the overall environmental challenges, the

Indian government has introduced various initiatives and

regulations, such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental

Design (LEED) certification, aimed at promoting sustainability

in the construction sector. As per the U.S. Green Building

Council (USGBC) annual list, India ranked third in the world

and has emerged as one of the leading countries to adopt

green and sustainable buildings and developments.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

AND UPDATES

Current sustainability landscape of India

The integration of sustainability principles into

the Indian construction industry is imperative for

mitigating environmental impacts, addressing

resource scarcity, conserving energy, enhancing

occupant well-being, complying with regulations,

and meeting market demands.

It presents an opportunity to develop a resilient,

efficient, and environmentally responsible built

environment that supports a sustainable future.

Our sustainability efforts also focus on reducing energy

consumption and implementing innovative solutions.

Recently, with the inauguration of our state-of-the-art

manufacturing plant in Vadodara (Gujarat), we have

intensified these efforts. The manufacturing plant features a

low-energy cooling system, complemented by photovoltaic

panels on the roof, which power one third of the plant’s

energy needs while preventing overheating by providing

shade.

This has resulted in an approximate 80% reduction in

cooling energy consumption compared to conventional

buildings.

Sustainability is increasingly becoming a critical concern

for our customers, who are actively seeking partners,

capable of contributing to the reduction of their CO2

emissions. Through our innovative spirit and our steadfast

commitment to sustainability at Hilti, we strive to make

sustainability an everyday priority.

We proudly share that globally we have already achieved our first milestone: CO2 neutrality within our own operations.

This accomplishment is the result of operating with greater energy efficiency and adopting more sustainable alternatives

wherever possible. In India, our Tool Service Centres in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore partially run on solar energy.

To offset the remaining CO2 emissions, we have established some exclusive projects in collaboration with the Hilti

Foundation and climate partners, which will not only reduce CO2 emissions but also create social impact on a global scale.

However, our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions extends beyond our own operations. Therefore, in 2022, we pledged

to the science-based target initiative, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050. Our journey to net zero entails addressing CO2

emissions throughout our entire supply chain, leading to decarbonization of our products. To achieve this ambitious goal, we

are integrating sustainability into our development and procurement processes from the outset.

Bring Transparency on Data

Hilti’s tool park solutions can bring significant CO2 savings to

your tool park

Fleet Management - industry’s most circular solution, focusing

on “Tool As A Service”

Speaking about one of our initiatives in this bid is Hilti Fleet Management Service. The Fleet represents the industry’s first

fully circular tool leasing model. Instead of purchasing tools outright, customers opt to lease an optimized tool park from

Hilti, resulting in significant material savings.

Customers enter into a 3-4 year agreement with Hilti, during which they

can utilize the tools and take advantage of Hilti’s value-added services.

At the end of their lifecycle, tools are returned for reuse or recycling,

and replacements are provided to the customer.

One of our notable initiatives is “School Chale Hum”

aimed at empowering young children to overcome

emotional and academic challenges. Hilti India

employees voluntarily participate in mentoring sessions

across five states, providing personalized teaching

in regional languages. The top three scorers receive

support from Hilti India, initially in the form of financial

rewards and later through the Hilti Scholarship Program,

ensuring these youngsters have a brighter educational

journey.

Hilti India’s commitment to social impact is further

strengthened by collaborations with local organizations,

working together to bring a meaningful change.

Engaged Beyond

Business

EBB is our corporate volunteering program, through

which we encourage our global workforce to create a

positive impact on people’s lives and in the society we

inhabit. In India, we have identified three key areas to

generate sustainable impact: Economic Empowerment

of Underprivileged Children, Affordable Housing and

Technology, Healthcare.

Transforming lives: Building sustainable housing solutions in India

In India, an alarming 63 million people currently find themselves living in substandard housing, a number that continues to

rise with each passing year. This dire housing situation not only jeopardizes the health and safety of individuals but also

hampers economic opportunities and social inclusion for those affected.

In alignment with our global sustainability goals of ensuring affordable housing for all, we have taken a significant

partnership with the esteemed CIBART team, renowned for their expertise in Bamboo Construction. This collaboration,

which commenced in June 2023, has brought together key stakeholders including Hilti India, Base Bahay Foundation,

and CIBART for a formal beginning of Bamboo Housing project in the Navsari district of Gujarat, particularly in Gangpur &

Manpur village.

Through this collaborative effort, we aim to not only provide sustainable housing solutions but also uplift lives and create

lasting positive impacts for generations to come. Together, we are transforming the landscape of housing in India, one

bamboo structure at a time.

We take pride in presenting our second industry newsletter as a part of our thought leadership initiative, with the aim of

disseminating knowledge and practical insights with like-minded stakeholders who share the passion for advancing the

agenda of sustainability and making construction better.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our in-house editorial team, whose relentless efforts and seamless coordination have

brought this newsletter to fruition. Their dedication and commitment to providing valuable insights, updates, and resources

have significantly contributed to the success of this edition.
