SALARY SURVEY
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for taking the time to read HRC Recruitment’s Salary Survey for 2023/24. We’ve spent
months gathering data from clients, candidates, consultants and job boards to bring you the most up-
to-date insights for the Scottish market.
In 2023, job vacancies have remained high in the past year despite falling from the peak in May 2022,
with resignation rates also persisting as employers find it hard to keep up with inflation.
2023 has been a tough year for most due to uncertainty and economic challenges, rising inflation, the
cost of living crisis, and high-interest rates. This has undoubtedly caused significant pressures for
businesses worldwide, impacting cash flow, turnover and profitability.
The pandemic has transformed the future of work into the present reality, even a few years later.
Many businesses have continued to focus on adapting to the changes in hybrid working, employee
well-being and technology automation. Companies are increasingly hiring based on skills rather than
qualifications, while employees seek more flexibility and better well-being support on top of a good
salary.
Whatever your recruitment plans are for the year ahead, HRC would be delighted to support you.
Whether you need temporary solutions or permanent hires, entry-level candidates, or senior
appointments, our teams of experts are poised to help you achieve those goals. Indeed, this salary
survey is designed to give you a competitive edge in attracting talent to your business. The
knowledge of the figures candidates seek in particular roles will only strengthen your offering in your
particular market.
We hope you find this helpful reading. Best wishes for the months ahead.

ACCOUNTANCY & FINANCE (INDUSTRY)
From newly qualified accountants to CFO roles, the Accountancy & Finance (Industry)
market has been increasingly fast-paced throughout 2023. Salaries have been steadily
increasing, and this candidate short market shows no signs of stabilising.
Two key areas suffering from staggering skill shortages are Credit Control and Payroll. Post-
COVID-19 pandemic, the payroll profession has been impacted by many people leaving the
profession. Credit Controllers are increasingly in demand due to economic pressures and
focus on cash flow.
To attract the brightest and best, many of our clients have had to reassess several aspects
of their offerings, including flexibility options, development and progression pathways,
overall benefit packages and the technology in use. Candidates can - and have been -
asking for more.
Another key thing our clients have had to consider is the efficiency of their own recruitment
process. Hiring timetables that stretch out for weeks on end will see candidates turn down
an offer on a role for another one with a quicker turnaround.
The salary bandings we have provided come from months of monitoring the Accountancy &
Finance industry market and researching the different types of roles we often recruit for. We trust
your firm will find this useful information when it comes to attracting and retaining talent.

SALARY SURVEY
ACCOUNTANCY & FINANCE (PRACTICE)
There is - without doubt - a talent shortage within the industry, particularly in Tax and
Audit roles. Part-qualified and newly qualified candidates also remain scarce.
If you would like to speak to our Accountancy & Finance (Practice) team regarding your
recruitment needs, please get in touch with our Director, Margaret Richmond, by emailing
mrichmond@hrcrecruitment.co.uk
Many firms have struggled to attract talent in the past year, with salaries, benefits
packages and lack of professional development opportunities at the heart of many failed
recruitment drives. Practice candidates have made it clear that they want the ability to
progress, learn, and grow within whichever firm they end up in.
Salaries, too, have to be competitive (and the bigger picture benefits package has to go
beyond the usual bullet points).
As for HRC Recruitment, we have expanded our Accountancy & Finance (Practice) offering by
reshaping our division and adding new consultants to the team. We provide temporary and
permanent candidates for our clients across Scotland, working with the Big 4 and SME firms.
The salary bandings we have provided come from months of monitoring the Accountancy Practice
market and researching the different types of roles we often recruit for. We trust your firm will find
this useful information when it comes to attracting and retaining talent.

SALARY SURVEY
BUSINESS SERVICES
We have spent time gathering data from our clients and candidates to prove a
comprehensive salary banding for the roles we typically recruit for. We trust that
this will be useful when it comes to setting salary brackets for your 2024
recruitment drives.
Some positions are paying slightly more due to specific skill requirements and knowledge
needed to be successful for the role, and many are looking for experience from a similar
background. However, additional employee benefits on top of a salary also play a big part
in whether or not a candidate takes a job. Some main benefit trends we will see in 2024
include mental health, financial wellbeing, family-forming and menopause support.
By looking at salary bandings across the various job titles we see in our industry, we feel
we are best placed to advise our clients on how to attract (and retain) the best talent for
their business.
Salaries across the Business Services space vary depending on the type of
business/market sector and the organisation’s size. Because of this job, titles also
tend to overlap.

CALL & CONTACT CENTRES
The Call and Contact centre area has seen much less movement in the market as
fewer roles are advertised in the contact centre space.

recruitment needs, please get in touch with our Director, Margaret Richmond, by
emailing mrichmond@hrcrecruitment.co.uk
Candidates are now considering additional benefits before moving instead of
just salary. As a minimum, most candidates are looking for a hybrid working
option, as this has become the new normal after the last couple of years.
We have gathered data from our clients and candidates to prove a comprehensive
salary banding for the roles for which we typically recruit. We trust that this will be
useful when it comes to setting salary brackets for your 2024 recruitment drives.
At HRC, we can provide support with large quantities of hires and with one-off
recruitment assignments such as managerial-level roles.
