Dear Viking Families,
Time sure is flying by, it’s hard to believe that we are only one week away
from 6th & 7th grade exams to end the first academic quarter of the year.
The minds and skills of our Viking students are growing and expanding each
day! October brings with it so many events to our campus. We are in full
swing with Biddy Soccer, we will have our first Family Mass, Octoberfest, our
JV Flag Football and JV Volleyball teams will be playing next week in the
CSAL championships, the Living Rosary, our Early Childhood field trip to the
Pumpkin Patch, auditions for our Winter theater production- Willy Wonka
Kids, and we will have our Parent - Teacher Conference Night as well. It’s
such an exciting time to be a Viking!
On Wednesday, we will have a dress down day to support those who were
affected by Hurricane Helene. Unfortunately, in our area we know all too
well how hard it is to recover from a devastating storm. Please follow all
dress down guidelines outlined in the handbook, and bring at least $1 (but
hopefully more) when you dress down to donate to those in the affected
areas.

Living Our Faith
The month of October is dedicated to the
Most Holy Rosary. We invite you to bring your
children to pray the Rosary at Church on
Saturday, October 5, which begins the Rosary
Congress, and it will continue until October 12.
What is a Rosary Congress? A Rosary
Congress is 7 days and nights of continuous
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with
Masses and Rosaries. Our Eucharistic Rosary
Congress plays a part in the U.S. Bishops’ plan
for a new outpouring of Belief, Hope and
Love for Jesus in his TRUE EUCHARISTIC
PRESENCE - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
During the week of the Rosary Congress, we
will be praying 1 decade of the Rosary every
day with the entire school during morning
announcements. The classes will also be
praying the Rosary in religion class. Also this
month, we will pray the Living Rosary as a
school on Tuesday October 15 at 8:15AM.
Month of the Rosary
Our Kindergarten Vikings created buddies to
help them remember how to make the sign
of the cross. They will use this important
gesture several times throughout the day as
we say our prayers school wide.

We celebrated Fr. David this past Sunday for
being the selfless leader he is of our school.
Let us honor his commitment to the
priesthood by praying for him.

Our Kindergarten Vikings worked together to
compare numbers. They used counting blocks
to determine if a number is less than, greater
than, or equal to another. We love to see our
students helping one another to gain better
understanding of these critical math skills.
Comparing Numbers
Mrs. Nicholas recently brought her science
classroom outside for some hands-on
learning. Each fifth grade student brought in a
bag of dead grass, leaves, etc. and poured it
into the compost bin. They learned that
decomposers (bacteria, fungi, insects, worms)
can break down the dead material and create
fertile soil. Throughout the year, they will
rotate the material inside the bin, which will
create compost for the raised garden beds on
campus.
Getting Dirty
First grade students are working on their
writing skills. First, they worked on question
words to form proper questions. They then
interviewed a classmate to gain more
information. The new authors just finished
writing their first full paragraph reports on
their partners that they interviewed.

As exams approach, I want to offer some helpful study tips to make preparing for the middle
school exams less stressful. Feel Free to contact me for more tips or visit
https://effectivestudents.com/articles/essential-study-skills-for-middle-school-students/
Create a Study Plan. Add study time to the family calendar; spread it out over several days to
avoid cramming.
Practice Active Learning. Instead of just reading your notes, try summarizing the key points in
your own words, quiz yourself, or teach somebody else.
Try Pomodoro. This is my favorite study technique! Download the Pomodoro app or set a
timer for 25 minutes of focused study, followed by a 5-minute break. After a few rounds, you
can take longer breaks.
