Continuing Recovery...Mel Doughty
Mayfield will never be the same, however, if you add up just what is on the
cover you see that 165 homes have been built with 56 either restored or will
soon be completed. 221 plus so many others. These blessing have come with
millions of dollars being given to help build these houses and without the
work of hundreds of Amish, Mennonite labors along with hundreds of volun-
teers from all over the country coming and working without pay and covering
their own expenses. Really hundreds have blessed Mayfield since the torna-
do.
The First Christian, The First United Methodist and the First Presbyterian
churches are working on final plans and hope to begin rebuilding soon. The
First Baptist Church will be reopening all fives structures: sanctuary, edu-
cation building, children’s builing,
fellowship hall and gym and worship
center. New Visions Ministries new address is 823 North 13th Street.
Both Emmanuel Baptist Church and St. James AME Church have been re-
built as St. Joseph Catholic Church education and ministry building been
rebuilt. The support of Wilma’s and The Barn has been great as soon as
they reopened.
The Mayfield Graves County Art Guild was located in the Ice House and now has a new location at 825
Paris Road and a new director, O’Dina Neros.
