WELCOME INTRODUCTION

ollowing a very successful 2023, we are very excited to

be celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2024. We cannot

believe that it has been 25 years since Anders was

driving up and down the country looking for new customers,

or any customers to be frank….. Today we are growing, due to

the fact that our existing customers’ are recommending new

customers and that you, as a customer, are finding new

products from our vast range of fuels, oils and pitstop

products.

2023 has also been a very interesting year with the first race,

organised by a UK promotor, being ran on FIA Advanced

Sustainable fuels. Goodwood has always been innovative in

regards to their race meetings and they wanted to put out a

message that “using a sustainable fuel is a good alternative to

EVs”. As petrol heads, we’re not 100% convinced that

replacing existing ICE (internal combustion engine) cars and

motorcycles with electrically powered vehicles is necessarily a

good idea, compared to making the fuel carbon neutral.

For sure, EV tailpipe emissions are zero, BUT the carbon

footprint of producing them is MUCH bigger than from

producing an ICE car – according to Forbes “it will take up to

24 years for an EV being driven 5,000 miles per year, to be

even with an ICE powered vehicle, in regards to the carbon

footprint”.

The prognosis is (ev-volumes.com) that by 2030, the EV

will account for 15% of the total fleet, leaving 85% of growth

potential for the car manufacturers – what an opportunity to

sell products, no wonder they are all excited about EV!

So, we applaud Goodwood for taking the first steps towards

sustainable energy and to show that old cars can keep going

with a vastly reduced footprint. Goodwood’s Event Team

tasked us to supply an FIA Advanced Sustainable fuel to the

Fordwater Trophy Porsche 911 race at the 2023 Goodwood

Revival, as a case study. Thanks to our substantial experience

with bio components and ethanol blended fuels, we know the

pitfalls and could, therefore, put together a very competitive

FIA Advanced Sustainable fuel in time for the event. We were

extremely pleased that engine dyno tests, with the 2-litre

Porsche race engine, produced 2.5% more power compared to

the benchmark Sunoco CFR fuel. We named the fuel “Sunoco

FAS” and launched it at the meeting with very good feedback.

Encouraged by the results, Goodwood recently announced

that “all race cars and bikes competing at the 2024 Goodwood

Revival must run on 70% sustainable fuels”. This means that

we will have to design a few more fuels to cover all types of

engines – we are up for the challenge!

Hopefully, we will catch up with you at a race track in 2024 –

until then keep racing!

PRODUCTS FOR RACERS FROM RACERS

Contents

Designed with racing in mind

2024

is going to be our 25th year of

trading and we are pleased to have,

as always, many exciting new

products from our well renowned suppliers.

Sunoco are introducing a variety of sustainable fuels - in

fact, ALL oxygenated Sunoco Race Fuels will use a fully

sustainable generation 2 ethanol made from waste from

the food industry. This means that, when using Sunoco

instead of pump fuels, you will reduce your carbon

footprint by as much as 98%.

In the Driven Racing Oil camp, we will see little change to

their vast range of products. The delay of the Driven

75W-90 and 75W-140 LSD racing gear and transmission

oils has been frustrating, but we have been promised

delivery during spring 2024.

The Zestino brand (drift and track tyres) is continuing to

gather momentum in Europe. We are very pleased to

again be the sole supplier to the MSUK Pro Drift

Championship, as well as seeing more and more track day

tyres being sold, thanks to their excellent value for money.

If you are racing a GT4 car, or any other formula where

quick pit stops are essential, the SPEEDSOCKET is the tool to

have. Even I can change a wheel in under 30 seconds with

no bother, whereas a seasoned pitlane tyre guy can do it in

less than 19 seconds!

Classic Fuel Solutions now have three fuels to their

portfolio. The well proven leaded motorcycle racing fuel

CFS Formula 105, the CFS Storage Plus and the leaded CFS

Storage 5-Star. In 2023 we rolled out the CFS storage fuels

via our network of 550+ garden machinery dealers to

ensure that they were readily available throughout the UK.

This has proven very successful, as there is no freight costs

involved and, of course, the success has been fuelled by the

pump fuel issues.

SONAX car care products are just great. I can now clean a

car and make the paint sparkle – why not add some to your

next race fuel and oil order.

PRODUCTION

During this period, we

have built up a wealth of

experience within this

market and opening our

new site in 2015 has

allowed us to maximise

this knowledge.

Anglo American

Oil Company has been

selling first class race

fuels since 1999

We have our own in-house blending and storage tanks, allowing us to work with

bulk deliveries from both Sunoco in the USA and our European raw material

suppliers.

Working within a very specialised field, has allowed us to put our expertise to

good use and now over half of the 30 different race fuels we stock are our own

formulations, all blended on site. Keeping production in house ensures we have

complete control of the production process, which means we can blend fuels to

the highest levels of consistency and quality.

By global standards, we are a very small fish in the fuel market, but this allows

us to respond to changing markets very quickly and have the ability to produce

new fuels, in both small and large volumes at very short notice.

Quality is key to our ethos, so all fuels go through extensive testing during the

development and production process to ensure each batch is consistent and

repeatable. We have our own laboratory where the majority of this work is

undertaken using state of the art equipment and where required we use the

services of a world leading third party testing facility located here in the UK.

2024 sees further investment in our tank farm facility, which will help safe guard

against some of the supply chain issues that have continued to affect us in the post

Brexit and Covid world.

SUSTAINABLE FUELS

acing has always been the test area for new ideas and to

promote change. The F1 engines are now around 50% efcient

thanks to extremely cleaver software, mechanical innovation

and a need to maximise power and efciency to win races. Cost has

never been a major factor to win if the budget has been able to support

R&D.

Huge steps has been made in the development of clean burning

safe and powerful fuels within the FIA regulations to maximise the

drive train package and this of course also includes lubricants. The

fuel used in road vehicles on the other hand are designed to be as

cheap as possible whilst meeting the minimum requirements for road

fuel standards. Improvements or changes are forced by regulations

such as the lowering of sulphur and introduction of bio components

to drive down the dependence of crude oil and to promote less

exhaust and carbon emissions.

Sustainable fuels have been introduced in the WRC and WEC and

in some of the SRO GT Championships. Many argue that the fuels

were released too early due to engine oil being diluted by the fuel

causing bearing issues and fuel pumps wearing out prematurely.

Anglo American Oil Company had been working with suppliers of

sustainable fuel components since 2018 to understand the pitfalls

when Goodwood announced that the 2023 Fordwater Trophy pre-

1965 Porsche 911 was going to run on FIA Advanced Sustainable

fuels. As we have been their fuel partner since mid-2000 we jumped at

the chance to put together an unleaded FIA Appendix J 252.9.3.1

racing fuel that was successfully delivered through our pumps at the

event together with the traditional unleaded and leaded historic

racing fuels – say hello to the Sunoco FAS!

As the 2023 Fordwater Trohpy was deemed a success the Duke of

Richmond has announced that two races at the 2024 Goodwood

Members meeting and ALL races at the 2024 Goodwood Revival will

be run on fuels with 70% sustainable content. As there are so many

different types of cars and bikes of different eras there is not a “one fit

all” solution so more fuels need to be developed.

SUSTAINABLE FUELS

A bio fuel is a fuel that is made from products such as crops, algae

and forest – basically products that consume CO2 which is then later

released when combusted. The issue with bio fuels can however be

that we are fuelling our vehicles with products that could be used to

feed us or products that are in the food chain or being used to make

furniture etc. These fuels are called generation 1 fuels.

Sustainable fuels are typically bio fuels but not made from usable

products – i.e. they are made from waste from production of usable

products. These are called generation 2 fuels. As with generation 1

fuels the main fuels are ethanol and methanol. These can then be

synthesised into hydrocarbons or used as they are.

Sustainable fuels can also be made from carbon capture and if the

energy used to produce these fuels are classed as green (wind, solar,

wave etc) then the process produce e-fuels.

A common issue with all hydrocarbon fuels made from bio

components or those classified as e-fuels is that they are typically low-

octane fuels so not that good for racing.

But what is a

sustainable fuel

and what is a

bio fuel?
