“As Christians, we do not only receive a call individually:
we are also called together.
We are like the tiles of a mosaic.
Each is lovely in itself,
but only when they are put together do they form a picture.
Each of us shines like a star in the heart of God
and in the firmament of the universe.
At the same time, though, we are called to form constellations
that can guide and light up the path of humanity,
beginning with the places in which we live.”
-Pope Francis, Message for the 59th World Day of Prayer for Vocations
on the theme “Called to Build the Human Family,” May 2022
The mission and ministry at Old St. Patrick’s Church are
made possible by the many hands that work together in
community, service, prayer, and worship. This year, we
highlight the many ways that the Old St. Pat’s community
comes together to answer God’s call.
This year’s Annual Stewardship Report includes the many stories of our members and
ministries at Old St. Patrick’s Church. To view the interactive, digital version with links and

Digital Stewardship Report: Interactive Stories
Kinship program has evolved into a comprehensive Kinship Initiative, embodying our
commitment to holistic social action, outreach and transformative relationships
. Additionally, we celebrated a milestone, with Old St. Patrick’s and our members bei
ng honored for more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Greater Chicago F
ood Depository.
In a testament to our vibrant faith community, we celebrated almost 300 baptisms and
continue to lead with some of the most dynamic religious education, high school, an
d young adult programs in the archdiocese. Our commitment to welcoming young adults is especially heartening, with more than 46% of our new members being from this demographic, infusing our parish with hope for future generations.s
Over 1,500 member households responded to my call to increase their Sunday Giving, and
I am deeply moved by the generosity that has led to growth in our donations. However
, supporting our ministries while maintaining and caring for our historic church, nearly
30 years after its renovation, continues to place pressure on our budget. Rising costs
of utilities and supplies along with significant unexpected repairs and capital improvements impacted us this year. Thanks to the generosity of members over the years, we were able to respond to these needs and preserve some of the essential treasures of our campus. I am profoundly grateful for your support and pray that, as stewards of our inspiring mission, we will navigate these challenges together, ensuring stability for our community both now and in the years to come.s
Looking ahead, Old St. Patrick’s is poised to further clarify our shared mission and vision.
Our goal is to bridge divides in our city and world, support our neighbors, and ensure tha
t the values of exquisite worship, transformative kinship, and radical inclusivity remain t
he cornerstones of our community as we move forward.
As Jesus called his first companions, so he calls us to discipleship and joyful service to our
sisters and brothers. Each Sunday as we gather in worship, we are uplifted, challenged an
d fed so that we might move into the world as people of hope, committed to reconciliati
on and healing. May we respond to the call with ever greater generosity and love.
Gratefully,
Fr. Patrick E. McGrath, S.J.

Since 1846, Old St. Pat’s has been the spiritual home for generations and continues as a thriving faith community. Created in the early 1870s, the original altar at Old St. Patrick’s Church was an integral part of the sanctuary until the late 20th-century renovation where it was placed in another sacred space at Old St. Pat’s between the sanctuary and the rectory. In 2023, the rich detail of this sacred and historic altar was restored by descendants of the original 19th-century artisans from Daprato Rigali Studios.s

We were also grateful to celebrate members

“Imagine being asked to help build a new altar for Hughes Hall that would have a

Fiscal Year 2024 was a period of great
enthusiasm and growth for our community.
We saw an increase in contributions, with
61% of our current Sunday Giving
households enhancing their support,
and over 650 households making their
first donation.
contributions have made meaningful progress toward aligning the
annual operating budget with our needs.
Despite this positive development, the fiscal year concluded with a
budget shortfall of $335,748. This shortfall was primarily due to
unexpected capital expenses, necessary upkeep for our 178-year-old
church, deferred maintenance, and rising costs of utilities and supplies.
Delayed reimbursement from insurance and federal credit dollars
totaling approximately $379,000 is expected in early FY25.
The Old St. Pat’s community has once again shown extraordinary
generosity. Donations to the Immigration and Refugee Ministry surged
by over 125%, while support for the Annual Cardinals Appeal grew by
27% and the special appeal for North Lawndale Employment Network
surpassed all expectations.

For years, many of our church’s lights have been at less than their full
brilliance, due to the challenge of accessing lights without risking damage t
o our custom pews and marble floors, and upgrading to energy-efficient lighti
ng without rewiring the church in addition to managing ongoing operatio
nal expenditures within the Sunday Giving donations.
With careful planning, the lighting project took nearly a year to complete. It
involved the use of lifts, ladders, and hundreds of light bulbs to achieve th
e perfect illumination for our liturgies and gatherings. The following areas ha
ve been upgraded to LED lighting:
Bells of St. Patrick's Church pendants
Stained Glass windows along the ceiling
Book of Patrick Stained Glass

Lighting Up Our Sacred Space
Thanks to the generous support of our Crossroads Circle Members* and the
proceeds from events such as the Emerald Ball, Deck the Hall, an
d Shamrock’n, several major capital improvement projects were completed this year. These projects, which have been years in the planning, represent a significant enhancement to our campus.s
Key improvements include:
Security System Upgrades: Enhanced cameras, fire monitoring, and
security systems across the campus, ensuring a safer environment fo
r everyone.
Fr. Jack Wall Mission Center: Installation of a new HVAC system,
upgrades to the water system, and asbestos abatement, all contributing t
o a healthier and more efficient space.
Balcony, Vestibule and Bridal Suite Heating and Air Conditioning:
Restoration of the heating and air conditioning system, to ensure comfor
t for all who use the space.
Fellowship Hall: Upgrades to the sound and AV equipment, improving the
quality of our gatherings and events.
These improvements not only help our historic campus remain
eenvironmentally friendly and safe but also ensure that we are using our paris
h resources wisely and effectively. We deeply appreciate your continu
ed support, which has made these essential upgrades possible.
