especially in Europe where organic is now the top clean label claim

consumers look for. Organic products – whether that’s chocolate

and confectionery, or bakery items – often come with a higher

price point, giving them a premium value add for manufacturers.

Health and quality aren’t the only concerns driving organic

purchases. Consumers are increasingly seeing organic as better

for the planet, too. With tight restrictions or complete bans on

non-organic pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers or other chemicals

used in growing and processing, organic farming aims to protect

soil biodiversity and have a more positive impact on

the environment.

In response to this growing trend, ofi recently launched its first

100% segregated organic cocoa range. Our deZaan Organic

cocoa powder and cocoa butter are expertly crafted and

naturally sourced from organic certified farms. The cocoa beans

are then carefully traced through the supply chain to ensure the

integrity of the organic certification.

Organic rises

the menu

Organic foods aren’t new, however, the past few years have

seen significant additional growth in the category – particularly

when it comes to cocoa and cocoa ingredients. As the health

and wellness boom continues, consumers looking to improve

their diet view organic foods as a more natural and favorable

alternative. And this is having a noticeable impact

on purchasing decisions.

Health-conscious consumers are increasingly opting for organic

products, with many conflating organic certifications with quality.

In fact, the latest research by Innova shows organic is now the

third largest health claim globally and is continuing to grow,

ORGANIC RISES UP THE AGENDA

With shoppers paying more attention to ingredients, origin,

production methods and ethical practices, organic stands

In this edition, we explore the latest insights and trends

driving organic and its growth in Western Europe and North

America. We’ll also hear from ofi’s deZaan cocoa experts on
