CHESSMEN participated in the kick-off
meeting of the EU-JAMRAI 2 Joint Action on
Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare-
Associated Infections.
This marked an important step on the
coordination and harmonization of best
practices, while avoiding the duplication of
efforts.

CHESSMEN RADAR: WPS
VIDEO UPDATES
The Joint Action launched the new initiative
‘CHESSMEN Radar’, a resource to assist in the
dissemination of information given directly by
the WP Leaders.
This initiative comprises one-minute videos
regarding the accomplishments, ongoing work
and foreseen deliverables of each WP.

CHESSMEN participated in the International
Conference on the ‘Supply of Plasma-Derived
Medicinal Products in the Future of Europe’,
hosted by Centro Nazionale Sangue.

AEMPS STUDY VISIT: MEDICINE
SHORTAGE MANAGEMENT
STRATEGIES
The Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical
Devices (AEMPS) hosted in their headquarters
representatives from INFARMED, I.P,, JAZMP,
and AIFA for a study visit.
This meeting led to a comprehensive
understanding of the tools, methodologies and
procedures used by AEMPS for the prevention,
management and monitoring of shortages.

Key highlights:
CHESSMEN speakers shared insights on the ongoing work, deliverables and
milestones.
Emphasis on the importance of ensuring medication access for all patients,
particularly blood-derived medicines.
The main results of the supply project, co-funded by EU4Health programme, were
presented.
Framework discussions on different work packages in advancing healthcare
accessibility.
Joint effort and alignment of objectives between both initiatives.
Periodical meetings have been held since April, 2024.
CHESSMEN JOINT ACTION
INTERMEDIATE MEETING
A key milestone in the Joint Action, that
gathered all CHESSMEN beneficiaries.
The two-day meeting, started on June 17 with
a closed session for WP leaders, followed on
June 18 by an open session for all members.

Update on project progress and challenges.
Presentations from WP leaders on
accomplishments, ongoing work, future
deliverables and milestones.
Identification of main constrains.
Insightful participation from the European
Commission and European Medicines
Agency.

INFARMED, I.P. STUDY VISIT:
MEDICINE SHORTAGE
MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES
The Portuguese National Authority of
Medicines and Health Products, I.P.
(INFARMED, I.P.) hosted in their headquarters
representatives from Finland, Italy, Slovenia,
the Netherlands, and Spain.
Discussions focused on the tools, databases,
procedures and methodologies used in
Portugal. Key areas for improvement were
identified for future CHESSMEN meetings.

MULTI-STAKEHOLDER
WORKSHOP
The Slovenian Agency for Medicinal Products and
Medical Devices (JAZMP), convened CHESSMEN
Multi-stakeholder Workshop bringing together
representatives of industry, healthcare
professionals, patient and consumer advocates, as
well as representatives from national regulatory
authorities and other European regulatory bodies.
The virtual workshop was attended by 220
participants and offered key stakeholders in supply
chain an opportunity to discuss the current state,
key findings, and preliminary conclusions of four
technical Work Packages of CHESSMEN JA after
almost 2 years of intensive cooperation supporting
harmonised response to medicines shortages in
EU/EEA.

Dissemination level: Sensitive
This deliverable clarified key definitions related to medicine shortages, with the goal to
walk towards increased standardization of the terminology used across EU Member
States. This deliverable was fundamental to clarify key definitions early in the project.
D 5.2: Review on Existing Documents or Information Relating to Root
Causes of Medicine Shortages in the EU
Dissemination level: Sensitive
A comprehensive review of existing documents and information related to the root
causes of medicine shortages in EU Member States.
D 5.3: Analysis Report on Root Causes
Dissemination level: Public
Based on the work developed on D 5.2 and supported by information obtained from
surveys of both Consortium partners and external target groups to address information
gaps, a report was elaborated on the analysis and categorisation of root causes of
medicine shortages in EU Member States.
D 6.1: Report on the Existing Documents on Shortages of Medicines
Dissemination level: Sensitive
A report of collected existing documents, such as guidelines, legislation, and reports
from Member States and key organisations covering medicine shortages.
D 7.1: Analysis Report on the IT Solutions at EU and MS
Dissemination level: Sensitive
An analysis of existing IT solutions at both EU and MS level for shortage notification and
monitoring, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and country-
specific data sources beyond national Competent Authorities.
D 7.2: Report on EU Best Practice Solutions and Minimum Common
Datasets
Dissemination level: Public
Based on the analysis of existing IT tools at national and European level, best practice
solutions and minimum common datasets have been identified.
