FSC®-CERTIFIED
COMPANY
Design Concept Denmark is a FSC®-certified company.
Our first FSC-certified collection is the chair collection,
Scope, which consists of six models, all of which are
FSC-certified. In addition, a range of furniture and
design interior from Andersen Furniture, as well as the
Angle stool from Muubs, is FSC-certified and produced
with consideration for the environment. We work
purposefully and ambitiously towards more FSC-
certified products.
WHY HAVE WE DECIDED
TO BECOME FSC-CERTIFIED?
We all have a responsibility to use nature’s resources
with care and respect and to leave nature in the
best possible condition for future generations. As a
company, we have a special responsibility. It certainly
takes time and costs money to think sustainably, but, in
our opinion, we can’t afford not to.
As a provider of furniture and design interior, we use
various materials, of which wood is a key one. Until now,
we have used wood that was FSC-certified through our
supplier, and in 2021, we chose to take the full step and
become FSC®-certified ourselves.

W o o d c a p t u r e s l a r g e a m o u n t s o f C O 2
1 t o n C O 2 -> 1 m 3 w o o d
FSC is an international control and traceability
system that helps us ensure and document that the
wood we use comes from sustainable forestry. This
means, among other things, that no more wood is
felled than the forest itself can reproduce, that the
forest’s biodiversity is maintained and that local
communities and employees in the forest are ensured
health, education and proper working conditions. By
purchasing sustainably produced wood, the value of
the rainforests increases, making them more valuable
to the local population than the agricultural land that
could otherwise be on the forested area.
The FSC label is thus your guarantee that the wood
is sustainable and can be traced back to the forest
in which it was felled. You always have the option to
check for yourself whether a company or a product is
FSC-certified by searching the Global FSC Certificate
Database.

THE COMPANY’S
RESPONSIBILITY
EU-ECOLABEL
The Mood Conference, Mood 4-legs, and Mood Learn
chairs from Andersen Furniture are certified with the EU
Ecolabel, which makes the chairs more gentle on the
environment. Mood is available with armrests and with
and without upholstery. The chair shell is made of 100%
upcycled polypropylene plastic sourced from industry
waste.
The purpose of the EU Ecolabel is to reduce the
environmental impact of products. In order to receive
the EU Ecolabel, Ecolabelling Denmark examines every
individual component of the chair, including the seat
shell, glue, foam, frame and screws. Along the way, any
environmental challenges are altered and improved.
The strict requirements ensure a sustainable product
with minimal environmental impact. A total of 18 chair
models in the Mood collection are certified with the EU
Ecolabel.
REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF
FISHING NETS IN THE WORLD‘S OCEANS
Fishing nets are a major culprit when it comes to
plastic pollution in the world‘s oceans, and obviously
pose a major threat to the world‘s ecosystem and our
health. In fact, fishing nets account for around 46% of
all plastic in the oceans. If these nets are allowed to
float around freely, they will automatically leave an
indelible mark. Nature suffers and so do we.
With this in mind, Muubs has in collaboration with Ege
Carpets, created Earth and Surface – a series of Danish
Cradle to Cradle rugs partly made of nylon from used
fishing nets found drifting around the Earth’s oceans.
The rugs contain up to 40% fishing nets, and the
underside of the Surface rug is partly made from
recycled plastic bottles. In this way, waste becomes a
valuable resource for the benefit of the environment
and is given new life as a beautiful interior design piece.
OLD TYRES GIVEN A NEW LEASE OF LIFE
Dacarr by Muubs is a collection handmade from
recycled tyres from trucks and bicycles. Objects that
have completed their lifecycles now take on a com-
pletely different role in our lives, thus extending the life
of the product. The series consists of baskets of various
sizes that can be used for anything from storage to
flower baskets.
As the products are made from recycled tyres, it is
possible to return the product to the local recycling
centre where it has its own category. The product is
then granulated along with other discarded tyres, and
the rubber is recycled into new products.

TWO CHAIRS MADE
FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC
The effort to sort waste is certainly not wasted. It has
made it possible for us to produce the popular Mood
chair and the felt chair Tono in a more sustainable
version. For the Mood chair, the black plastic shell is
made from recycled industrial plastic, such as
defective plastic pallets which are collected, cleaned
and then transformed into new plastic.
Furniture design is about thinking beyond form and
function. When you buy a Tono chair, you get a chair
with excellent seating comfort, great acoustics and a
sustainable felt made partly from 250 recycled plastic
bottles.
Mood and Tono’s circular life cycle challenges the
use-and-throw-away culture in favour of the environ-
ment and the economy.

HIGH QUALITY
– LONG LIFE
Our goal is to continue what we’re doing, only better,
and with the same commitment and honesty. We strive
to make high-quality furniture – and we believe that
this happens the moment form, colour, aesthetics and
functionality become inseparable and come together
as one piece.
Our designs are made in collaboration with visionary
architects and designers, who understand how to
balance comfort with practical features, aesthetics
with the doable, the sensible with the exciting.
Quality is always an important element in our products.
High quality is inextricably linked to a long service
life, thus reducing waste. Solid wood furniture can be
maintained and treated so it continues to look good
even after many years of use. It is also possible to
reinterpret the furniture with a new colour, bringing it to
life and revolutionising it with a new design. Furniture
brings joy – so there‘s plenty of opportunity to bring joy
to others when it‘s time to replace a product. Although
the recycling centre should be the last resort, wood will
not harm the environment when disposed of.
Wood is a living material, and wooden furniture in the
interior contributes to better acoustics, indoor climate,
and hygiene as wood dries out and kills bacteria.
Additionally, the low energy requirement for processing
wood into products makes choosing wooden furniture
an eco-friendly option, allowing for CO2 savings
compared to the production of alternative materials.

PLANT NEW TREES
At Design Concept Denmark, we actively
participate in tree reforestation. The planting
is done in collaboration with serious partners,
and the areas where the trees are planted are
recorded down to specific coordinates. When
purchasing a My Tree figure from Andersen
Furniture, you contribute to a greener world
as a new tree is planted for each sold My Tree
figure. Through our collaboration, we support
the restoration and expansion of forested areas
in both Denmark and India. Each My Tree figure
comes with a certificate specifying the precise
location of the project where the tree is planted,
making a positive impact on the global climate.
Trees play a vital role within our ecosystem,
serving as essential contributors in the fight
against global warming. Planting trees helps to
clean the air, improve the climate, and support
animal and insect life.

PLANT A TREE – CERTIFICATE
Thank you for buying a Andersen My Tree. You have now planted a
tree in Denmark. By buying a My Tree you are helping to re-establish
and expand forest areas, for the benefit of the global climate.
The project is located at the GPS-coordinates:
56°18’26 ”N/8°58’27 ”E
The tree planting project is a collaboration with the Green Times.
The goal is, among other things, to reduce CO2 emissions through
re-establishment and expansion of forest areas.
Trees absorb CO2, which is good both for our ecosystem and reducing the global warming.
The CO2 of the trees is absorbed as they grow and when new trees are planted. This helps to
get a cleaner air, a better climate and to improve biodiversity and wildlife.

THE LIFECYCLE
OF WOOD
Wood serves as nature’s raw material, created through
nature’s recycling of sunlight and CO2, and is a
particularly important resource to a greener future.
Wood is a renewable resource that removes CO2 from
the atmosphere throughout its lifespan, until it either
decomposes or is burned.
Wood, in its lifecycle, generates no waste; rather,
the energy and carbon within the wood are utilized,
helping to save the climate from fossil energy sources
like coal, oil, and gas. In fact, wood can store carbon
for several hundred years when used in buildings or
furniture.
The basic prerequisite for CO2-neutral wood is that the
forest area is preserved. This means that the number of
trees felled in the woods must not exceed the number
grown. This condition is met in forestry in both Denmark
and Europe*.

FROM USED
WATER BOTTLES TO
BEAUTIFUL RUGS
We work systematically to improve our impact on
climate and the environment. With creativity and
innovation, we work for sustainable development when
we design and produce our products. With this starting
point, Andersen Furniture has created the Flow carpet
with both social and environmental considerations.
SPECIALLY DEVOLOPED FELT MATERIAL
For Andersen Furniture, it’s natural to look at how we
can help leave a smaller footprint on the environment.
That’s why we designed Flow with a specially devel-
oped felt material on the back of the rugs, made from
recycled plastic bottles. The specially developed felt
material consists of approx. 18 bottles per m2, and the
recycled bottles get a new and valuable life.
CRADLE TO CRADLE CERTIFIED®
Ege Carpet has Cradle to Cradle Certified® Flow with
bronze. Cradle to Cradle is a ”cradle to grave” way of
thinking, where the starting point is that the product
must not strain our resources. With this product
certificate is the focus on keeping valuable materials
in circulation, cut waste and harmful substances, take
better care of our scarce resources, conserve ground-
water, reduce CO2 emissions and ensure social justice
in our operations and value chain.
Flow is produced in Denmark, in collaboration with Ege
Carpets, which means that we can reduce transport
and burden the environment as little as possible.
HIGH QUALITY WOOL FROM NEW ZEALAND
Flow is made from high-quality wool from New Zealand,
where their wool is known as one of the best and finest
qualities in the world. The wool is spun and put
together, so the carpet itself is durable and resistant,
and can last for several generations.
We not only pay attention to where the materials
come from, but also proper conditions are important.
The wool is free from abuse of the animals and with
certainty that the

PACKAGING
We aim to package our products in the most
appropriate way. A large number of our products are
flat-packed, which reduces the carbon footprint when
the product is shipped to all corners of the world, while
significantly minimising the packaging used for the
product.

FOCUS ON WASTE
SORTING AND
CONSUMPTION
Denmark is among the leading countries when it
comes to waste management. This means that, at
Design Concept Denmark, we also focus on sorting our
waste. We have specific containers for cardboard and
paper, and we also handle plastic separately, so that it
can be turned into new materials.
SOLAR PANEL SYSTEM
As a company, we have an obligation to think in terms
of green technology, and in 2022 we are harnessing
the sun’s rays to generate power for our operation
and administration. We expect to produce 50,000 kWh
annually, and by 2023, approximately 2/3 of our electricity
consumption has been covered by our solar panel
system. On a good summer’s day, we will produce more
than we consume, and we have thus entered into an
agreement to purchase surplus electricity production.
