Each year, Repair Affair reminds us of the true impact our industry can make, not just

by building homes, but by restoring independence, dignity, and hope. On June 3rd,

dozens of builders, volunteers, and community partners came together for one powerful

purpose: to improve safety and accessibility for those who need it most.

This event falls during the busiest time of year for our members, yet so many paused

their schedules to serve. That willingness to show up, to lend their hands and hearts

speaks volumes about the character of our industry. Their dedication transformed lives,

not in theory, but in real, tangible ways.

Bright green shirts peppered the Sioux Empire as volunteers and builders fanned out

across the region, each one representing a shared mission to make homes safer and

lives more independent. Thanks to their hard work, four projects were completed: two

wheelchair ramps with landings and two home repairs. Each project was more than a

construction task; it was a doorway to greater mobility, confidence, and freedom. For

those living with disabilities or aging in place, these changes are life changing.

We’re deeply grateful to the project leaders who helped make it all happen: John

Haensel (Hometown Remodeling), Michael Hickman (Deffenbaugh Homes), Ryan

Brouwer (Choice Builders), and Jeni Brooks (Brooks Construction). Your leadership

turned blueprints into blessings.

This work wouldn’t be possible without our incredible partners. The City of Sioux

Falls and Independent Living Choices provided critical support, from funding and

applications to coordination and care. Their partnership ensures that each Repair Affair

is thoughtfully planned and successfully executed.

We also want to thank our generous sponsors who didn’t just donate; they showed up,

tools in hand, ready to help. Your support is the backbone of this event. Please see the full

list of sponsors below and join us in recognizing their commitment to the community.

Together, we proved once again that small acts of service, when done with purpose, can

make a lasting difference. Repair Affair is more than a day of work. It’s a day of impact.

Here’s to building more than homes, here’s to building hope.
